Boyo makes a couple nice HD cameras that use a single thing cable to go up to the head unit so that you can draw power there. Not cheap, but nice. Those might work well here.

I'm looking forward to a custom kit for this. Picking up my BRZ on Sat.

I ended up running the power wire to the radio and tapped pin #3 which was radio ACC wire. I believe it was red but I dont remember for sure. This worked great and now the camera works perfectly with no issues.

HD cameras? Not that our head unit's display is capable of outputting HD resolution anyway, but what sort of medium is this HD video transmitted? Not sure we have component or HDMI inputs

It's just a single RCA. They output an NTSC 680(H) x 512(V) picture and have a high quality CCD. Most of the cheap backup cameras use very low res cameras with crap contrast.

Ahhh, gotcha. Companies have been abusing the hell out of the term "HD" lately.

True, in this case it's relative. They are noticeably nicer cameras though. Good picture at night, lit with the reverse lights on the car.

I wonder how the "HD" resolution works on the stock display (with it's glorious 480x272 resolution.)

Flat Black VW - I got into the settings menu but don't see an option to adjust the lines. What option is it under? Thanks.

Top of the screen should say Line Diag and lower left should have camera settings.

I wonder if I have a different software. When I go into the hidden menu I see three choices: Failure Diagnosis, Function Check/Setting and Service Information. None of the sub-menus mention the camera. Under the Function Check it gives an OK for rear camera but that's it.

That is a different menu. With the HU on, push and hold the top button, then puch and hold the other 2. The menu should come up.

When someone gets to doing a DIY, can you word it extremely simply and show lots and lots of pictures? I always feel uneasy when tackling electrical projects, because I have very little experience with them.

Lots of pictures would be excellent, and say "plug this pin here, solder this here, cut this exact wire here etc".

This will be one of the easiest DIY's I've done in years. Add 2 pins, run a video cable, power the camera, mount the camera.

I'll try to remember to "keep is simple stupid" when the write up comes
