it was most likely the case. but it doesn't make it any easier to watch.

Like I said I'm still giving this version a chance.

but since they've done away with the studio, leader board, guests, and it's just challenges + "victory challenge" at the end

the outlook it not looking good.

one other criticism I have (which I think is legitimate) is the producers seem to be banking on the fact the audience as not see Top Gear UK. because atone of the challenges seem to lifted directly from the Brits

I like it for what it is. SPEED has been such a massive letdown ever since FOX bought the station and now we have to find ourselves turning to History Channel and BBCAmerica for good non-racing car shows.

I think the US Top Gear is a "development" and personally think it's improving. Rutledge is funny and actually frequents several car enthusiast forums which is a nice personal touch communicating with the proletariat. I'm going to get flamed for this but I also think what makes any car show in America from becoming really good (or even getting started) is America itself. Our car culture is lacking in the "culture" department. Considering popular shows like PINKS, Pimp my ride, Unique Whips and Are you Faster than a Redneck; it's no wonder a studio isn't willing to fund a really proper and quality car show like UK Top Gear. Stupid sells in America and unless the show appeals to the lowest common denominator (aka: The largest TV demographic) it stands little chance of success.

Considering the American audience and what studios are willing to drop coin on nowadays, we're lucky to have a show like Top Gear USA.

And educational or not, scripted or not, fake or not, annoying hosts or not, whatever your excuse. If you did not get half a chub watching tanner rip that g-wagon around something is wrong.

I kinda liked the Australian Top Gear (second season. first was arse!), but never seems to catch enough interest

I can't stand the way they treat and destroy cars for 'entertainment'.
They had a phase in the UK where they used 10 new cars for 5 a side soccer and just bashed them all up. How many people watching could only dream about owning one of those cars?
It makes no sense and to me is offensive.

There's a US show where they have so many days to complete a project and the vehicle is destroyed if they fail to complete it in time. There have been some rare old cars smashed in that series along with lots of expensive new gear donated to the build.
I find that pointless and offensive too, especially in a world heading for trouble because of our numbers and throw away way of life.

They have US Top Gear? No kidding?!

Seriously, I gave them a chance and they suck. UK show is much better but some people just will never get British humor, or the fact they bash American cars just to get a rise from people.

I watched about 3 of the US Top Gear shows when it first came out. They were so bad I just couldn't get myself to watch any more. I really enjoy the UK Top Gear show.
