Oil Cooler Location?
I am thinking that the best location, cooling wise, for an oil cooler is directly in front of the air stream but this would put it in jeopardy from stones and other debris. Being a critical part it should not be in front of the air stream. Any suggestions on where to mount an oil cooler on a BRZ/86?

I dont have factory fogs on my FRS, so i was probably going to cut out the plastic space invaders and put it there. i'd cut out to the outline with a dremel so it shouldn't be very noticable at all. The other option would be in a fender well with a vent.
Stones and debris shouldn't be that much of a danger, they are generally pretty robust, if you're really concerned u could also put a mesh infront of it to block anything big enough to do damage. |

When was the last time you saw a radiator compromised via normal road debris? It would be the same with an oil cooler, I wouldn't sweat it.

We also cut louvers in the hood to help with the underhood venting  Problem solved with light weigh, simple low added oil pressure resistance, temp dependent system (oil never sees cooler till it hits 175 degree F) two track days temp guage has not budged fron "low normal". |

Mine will be going somewhere in front of the fmic/radiator, if it takes damage (never happened to me before) I will just yank the sandwich plate and drive home off WOT lol.

Here is a thought..
Do the AT equipped cars have a radiator with a secondary cooler. This is quite common with cars as they use the second cooler for transmission fluid. So maybe the MT guys can swap in AT radiator for a cheap/easy engine oil cooler? Mike |
