I do want to build a "24 hours of Lemons" car. Police auction is coming up. A black and white crown Vic with a giant wing would be a perfect lemons car.

My mom was pretty broke up about it because she's been wanting grandchildren for ages and all her friends and family talk about and share grandchildren pictures all the time. Despite that, she tried her best and really only made a couple of tiny, obscure mentions that my brother was able to pinpoint. He went on a tirade against my parents and has basically written us off. He's talking to my sister and me again, but I don't think he's talking to our parents and I have no clue if they will resolve it. I personally don't like kids, so if this gets me uninvited to insufferable family events I couldn't care less, but I'm pretty upset with how he's treated our mom. So you're right, some family just sucks.

He works in fraud and is apparently doing this to protect their privacy. I did google it to try and understand his point, and while the articles I read kinda made sense, it's not exactly worth this kind of paranoia. Basically, the fear is that someone will use the information to steal his kids' identities in the future. But what criminal is going to file away the birth date posted on facebook and wait 18 years to cash in? The articles I read said this was basically the danger of putting that information out there, but facebook hasn't even been around long enough for this to happen, so as far I can tell it's fearmongering and a mountain of paranoia with no real proof.

Also, maybe the parents don't want to be judged by potential employers as conflicted because they also have kids to deal with. I get it, but not talking to family is a bit of an extreme reaction. Edit, also what nevermore said. |

Meh I mean now-a-days you're not even really liable for that stuff, even though it's a pain in the ass if it happens. I do prefer not to use my real name on the internet, hence why I don't have a Facebook (but do have other social media). I'm sure anyone who looks hard enough could figure out who I am though. Plus with facial recognition I mean even if you walk into the mall, a casino, the airport, etc... they know who you are. So privacy is a thing of the past really. I would love to be able to get it back but that ship has sailed. When we can morph our DNA or something then we go back to the world where if something gets messed up (your own fault or not) you move 11mi to the next town and start again with a clean slate.
