Besides, I could work on the engine, enjoy to listening to the back two barrels of the carbs kick in and, with real dual exhausts, and straight thru glass packed mufflers, enjoy the sound of a real engine working.

change it to ITB and fuel injection, and i'm good.

frozen mornings and carbs never got along well together.

but they do take a bit more to get going. though it is fun to leave an oil slick behind with all the unburnt fuel(many classic owners in the midwest either haven't a clue how to tune a carb, or choose to run them so rich the tailpipe drips.)

I know that - I was around when they changed that measurement - which pissed me off, because the car I had lost power over night -

220 some HP would still be enough, when you couple it with 285 ft lbs of torque (gross?) -

Sound is a bit too aggressive sometimes. I have to control my throttle with civilians around
When the engine, supercharger, and exhaust scream together it is like
Hey, I want to hear that engine run - not those guys singing -

Ya, I hear that. I still have my cut in half, smashed head (to make it a British Standard Whitworth size) , open end wrench, to adjust the side draft carbs on my old MG. Yep, many ah frustrating hours with that wrench, to try to synchronize those two carbs -

I got good at it.

Humidity went up or down? Adjust the carbs
Temperature changed? Adjust the carbs.
Going to cruise all day? Adjust the carbs.
Hitting the strip? Adjust the carbs.
Something doesn't sound or smell right? Adjust the carbs.

I'm sure people have mentioned my wish list already.

more free revving n/a engine (no torque dip, more up top)
liftback
even lighter!
carplay/android auto (never thought I'd say it but it's awesome)
led drl that's more of a solid strip than dotted christmas lights, also sequential turn signals would be cool
more solid colors!

I ran triple webbers on a LJ Torana with a 202 straight 6, after about 2 years of blood, sweat and tears I pulled them and put on a 350 Holley.

Life was so much simpler after that, I did miss the sound though, but not the hours spent every week trying to keep it running smooth.

Huh, I never had issues running first the stock 240Z dual 1 3/4" Hitachi SU-clone carbs on my 3.1 liter bored/stroked 280Z engine, then 2" Jaguar SUs. Pull choke (fuel enrichener actually) lever, start car, hopefully remember to move the lever back to normal position after warmed up. Finally got some serious 3x2 45mm OER Racing (Weber clones) carbs, which allowed me to take advantage of big cam and headwork. Gained about 50rwhp! I tuned main and air jet sizes myself on the dyno. Tracked for years with somewhat cantankerous behavior on the street, an then finally an expert tuned it for me and after that no issues whatsoever.

I *never* had to readjust them for street vs track, humidity, temperature. Never ran the car at altitude, I can see how that might be an issue... With the triples, a single pump of the gas pedal to inject fuel from the accelerator pumps and she'd start right up! Had to play with throttle for a couple of minutes to keep it going until warm, but not a big deal...

Different setups = different issues. I didn't have problems with my duals on the Corvair or the Karmann Ghia. That 440 sixpack was a temperamental old thing though. I swear if you sucked a fly into the air filter you had to adjust the damn carbs.
Don't even get me started on that damned dual point distributer!
Man I miss that car.

If it stays NA almost guaranteed to have a torque dip. It is deliberately tuned in for economy/emissions targets. Even NA Porsche flat-6s have a similar dip (people just don’t complain as much because they still have way more torque and power overall).

liftback
This! It would make the 86 my ideal sporty but still practical car. With rear seats down mine already has enough room for my sporting gear, but the small boot opening makes loading and unloading tricky at times. A liftback would make it perfect. Sadly, to save weight and cost, I fear it will stay conventional boot.

Yes! It’s ridiculous Toyota drag their feet on this. At least the BRZ has it now. Which is one reason I’d lean towards the BRZ when the time comes to consider an upgrade. That plus Subaru seem to do a nicer job on interior and exterior styling details.

I want Toyota to bring back the orange. Plus, I love the hyper blue, hope they offer colours like that more often.

This is my only wish!
Don't care if it is the same orange and even a nice yellow is fine but these black, white, dozen shades of blue, hundred different greys and the occasional red sports cars are just not appealing to me. Just look out over any parking lot and there is a sea of boring shades that look like a black and white movie.

Lava Orange is such a great color for the FR-S. I hope they continue that with a new orange of some kind.
