Officially done with video game consoles
6 months ago my PS3 died after 13 months of ownership and in that 13 months I played the system for less than 70 hrs all together(I am not a big time gamer). After that I bought a XBOX360 mainly because of Forza 4 and loved it up until tonight when my cousin was playing Madden 2012 for 35 minutes and the system just died out of nowhere. Do any of you guys remember the days when a game system used to last a lifetime? What happened to quality in this day and age? I was looking at the failure rate for both the PS3 and Xbox360 and couldn't believe how high it was. I still have a PS2 from the early 2000's. I have enough money to buy dozens of video game systems but I am officially done with them and they have ruin me for the Wii U as it seems that HD gaming takes a toll on these pieces of shit systems. Rant/

I still have my first 360. And it got the RRD so I sent it in for the free repair and I've not had any problems since then (Knocks on Wood).
Maybe you have thoe console placed in a bad spot or sitting straight up which is not recommended. But good luck on getting a repair, if you choose to do so, but I feel ya. I would be irritated real quick too.

My PS3 (80GB MGS4 edition) just died recently. The GPU chip went up. Reflow allowed it to boot, but the actual display was toast. Only get white lines now. I'm not burned or upset about it. I'm pissed I lost my data and saves I can't get back, but I just bought a 320GB Slim. Man those things are quiet. I can still play my games and such, and I got Uncharted 3 for free.

had my ps3 since they first launched, still no issues. Had my xbox for many years then finally got the RRD. Repaired it myself since it was past warranty. It lasted about 8 months then died again, got a refurbished one from best buy.
but of course, my SNES still works after almost 20 years.

I have a PS3 and haven't had a problem... I fix 360's in my spare time, and I can tell you, if you get RROD and get it fixed properly, then it'll keep going for a while.
My release Xbox360 RROD'd but after repairing it, I have been going strong for a few years...

where do you keep your consoles? they could be overheating from lack of airflow.
otherwise i think you're just unlucky, my ps3 has been going strong for 5 years now, no probs. but if gaming isn't a big deal for you don't worry about it, that money can now go to other things

I think its just me being unlucky and I won't gamble any more money on these modern day systems ever again.

That's why I'll never also buy a first year anything. I hope the BRZ/FRS is built in the old fashion Japanese standards. I would rather buy a less powerful car with quality than a powerhouse that will break most of the time. My RSX is built the way I like and has served me well since 07 with only maintenance issues.

Have to concur with the PS3 quality... Bought it when they were first released and left it running all day almost every day. Also ntil last year all of those were in the UK where I didn't have A/C so it could get pretty hot but no issues what-so-ever. Sony for the win!

My first 360 (bought on launch day) died about a year in and I got it replaced. The new one has been touch and go. I've opened it up and reinstalled the heat sink to fix the red circle of death, and now the disk drive is kind of on its last leg. I'm sure I'll buy the next gen when it comes out anyways.
