Aug 10~11, 2013 86DDA & 86Fest 2 Review
86DDA Some of you may or may not know this, but 86DDA is made by Moto Miwa. He is one of well known & well respected person in USA... correction in the world. I'm not go to deep into his profile, but just say he's amazing guy. August 9th; drove from "mid-of-nowhere" to head to LA for one of the biggest 86 event in America, 86Fest 2... but before 86Fest 2, 86 Dynamic Drive Academy was waiting for me Saturday early morning! August 10th, 6:30AM in Auto Club Speedway, already setting up cones for 86DDA & Autocross! Best way to learn to go side way? Learn from the pro! Taka Aono from Formula D & Hiro Sumida from DriftPRO were instructor for this event. Club4AG members inspecting every FR-S & BRZ for any leaks or loose nuts & bolts. 86DDA safety comes first! Jeremy from FT-86 Speed Factory came for this event! This time, it became a lot beefier! Do I hear Supercharger? Taka-san brought his Formula D spec AE86 Hiro-san brought Cressida. Before anyone tease about it, let me say this. He can drift circle around you any time, anywhere. He got SKILLS! After all the cars are inspected, it's time for Drivers Meet. As you can see from the Rules, first 2 rules are "Be Safe"! Safe & have a fun time is Moto-san's philosophy. After Driver Meet, Moto-san brought everyone to autocross course to walk through and explain how to take on each corner. Getting free advice from SCCA Solo2 champion... can't get better than that? Or maybe... Let the fun time begin! For some drivers, this was first 86DDA. Some drivers forgot to take of Traction Control off, some drivers were scared of pulling e-brakes... half excited, but half nervous also. ...but for some, this was their third time coming to 86DDA, so they know what to expect! Even AE86 came to this event to have a fun time going side ways. Speaking of AE86, while everyone was on lunch break, Taka-san went a bit side way with his AE86 Instructed by Taka-san & Hiro-san, all the driver improved their skill as time went by. At the end of the event, almost everyone was doing this (keyword "almost"). Drift-Office/AVO brought, their turbo FR-S to this event. I wanted to test drive it... but instead, one of my friend test drove around (lucky him) Finished at 6PM... in 12hrs, 86Fest 2 was waiting for me... 86Fest 2
August 11th 2013, 6:30AM. Yes, not even 7am and people are here in Auto Club Speedway! Of course, where ever there's an event near LA, he's there! Moto-san help out this event. & These guys (FT-86 Speed Factory). It doesn't matter if they had to drive 12hrs for 2 days in the row, these guys will be at the event smiling and having fun! Love these guys! RS-R USA brought their BIG trailer to the event! How they brought it? As you can tell, they used Scion xB! lol jk Slowly, but surely all the vendor setup their booth for event to open. Not only Taka-san's AE86 was there, but Ken's FR-S & Yoshioka's BRZ were at the booth! At 11am, gate opened for people and became busy by min! While, I was dying from so many people and heat, Kenji-san from Cusco USA was enjoying it! One of the booth was RaceRoom which they let you test drive to see who can record the fastest time! Across from vendor and all the crazy amount of people walking around, Autocross was happening. Not only FR-S & BRZ were racing. Of course AE86 was there enjoying the event! Yes, even GT-R was there autocrossing. Out of all the autocross driver, I gonna point one driver. Why? Cuz this driver was FAST! Fastest? No, but it was hitting top ranking from the beginning and continues to go faster every lap... so I had to find out who the driver was. As driver went back to the booth (well given from the side of BRZ which booth can be found). Driver agree to take few photos (thank you)... and found out that driver was a lady!!! Hats off to her, because she got some skills for sure! What? Was she cute and did I take any pic of her? Well... let's not go off-topic shall we. btw yes & yes Met several member here on this forum and chat around. It was good to see several of you guys As for the prize and awards, I'm pretty sure you guys have heard it on other auto blog site, so I'll skip that part. If you missed this year's 86Fest, don't miss next year! If you wanna see over 200 FR-S/BRZ in the same spot at once, GO! If you wanna see all the mods that you're interested in seeing in person or even hear it, GO! It's worth walking in the hot sun! From 86DDA and 86Fest 2, I got reverse raccoon face (& still do).
