By your logic no car that subaru makes would be a subaru, but that isnt true, they are all subarus. If you had to put one name on this car it is subaru, unquestionably more so than toyota. That is not a good or bad thing, it is just the reality of this car.

Even the engine is not a 100% Subaru. It was designed with directions from Toyota. The parent motor was a Subaru engine. You can check the details here:

While I have nothing at all against Subaru (even have a sticker under hood that says powered by Subaru) I think that Toyota was going to build a 86 no matter what. Would Subaru have made a rear drive, 2wd sports car ?
