It was only a matter of time before they got tired of the cost of warranty replacement of the tails - I'm sure Toyota will back out of the warranty also.

Thanks to the gods for the 99 cent snowman snot fix !

Tail Light Condensation

The aftermarket tail lights that come with a good enough gasket are more resistant to condensation, but could and probably will have the issue eventually if they aren't sealed to the housing with weatherstrip adhesive or the like.

My Colins didn't come with gaskets so I had to reuse my original shitty stock ones, and they leaked.

Once I started making my own replacement gaskets and sealing them to the housings, it didn't happen again on either the stock lights or the Colins.

My Valentis came with decent gaskets, but I still sealed them to the housings with 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive and they've been fine with zero condensation.

My crystal eye gaskets were good and also sealed to the housings, but one eventually started to have condensation.
Flowing water is very erosive over time (i.e. the Grand canyon).
The constant surge of water flow eventually defeated the gasket goo.

I solved it with snow man snot over the top of the black plastic housing and body of the car to channel water away from getting under the housing and into the gaskets. Methinks the snot will also work on stock tails with no sealer as no water gets to the gaskets.

A permanent fix.

Diverting the water flow is also a good idea. I can't comment on the quality of the Crystal tail lights gasket/seal as I haven't seen it. It's actually sealed on arrival? You didn't have to add any sealant yourself? The factory tails are also "sealed", but it's the equivalent of scotch tape and only on the top, so I inherently don't trust it.

Do you have a link for this "snot", as I've been unable to find it locally.

I think it's worth researching and testing - maybe even developing a more elegant version (small plastic piece that diverts the water instead of a wall of goo). I'd certainly be inclined to buy a set of plastic diverters if they existed, just as an extra precaution.

My Crystal Eyes were second hand properly sealed, (I believe the gaskets were properly sealed by the factory).
Snow man snot is available at any stationary store - (the stuff to stick notes on fridges etc.). Non toxic, waterproof, doesn't melt in the summer, easily pliable, removable etc.

And only 99 cents ! Kamset Power Tack (or equivalent) - 4 sticks in a pack - all you need.

So it's back again and pretty bad.

I'm past the warranty (over 36K miles), is the taillight still a TSB and i can get it replaced for free? Or am i screwed now?

I picked up some silica packets, i'm going to give those a try. Also going to try and sealing the taillights.

Depending on how much water - an alcohol wash or drier packs

Then silicone seal gaskets and snot

If you're able to have the tail lights out of the car for a couple days, putting them in a box with a bunch of rice in it also does wonders to wick away moisture. That's what I used when my original stock tails first had condensation issues.
