IS IT WORTH IT?
So today this happened..
The question is.. IS IT WORTH FIXING.. I love this car but I'm tight on money right now and let's say insurance is not going to cover.. forget the detail.. aside it's a 2014 FRS paid off, exterior mods, interior redone, boosted.. so serious question.. fix or should I seriously part out and invest in another car? Please don't troll got a lot on my mind and this is a big decision for me 😭 Last edited by turtlefeeder; 05-30-2017 at 01:42 PM. |

It looks like you slid off an embankment.
I don't have even close to the same amount of money in my car that you have in yours, but if mine was wrecked and the insurance wouldn't fix it I would try to roll everything over into a new BRZ. Consider that if the insurance says it's totaled, then no matter how well you repair it, it will always have a salvage title. |

Part out then buy a super cheap (but still reliable!) beater until you can stockpile funds for a fun car again.

If it is only panel damage then okay.
But if the chassis is bent or the car is crabbing/wonky steering , then maybe time for a part out. |

First, I dont get why insurance wont cover if you have it whether you at fault or not.
Beside, if you paid off, you can get the money and choose fix it or not. I suggest let a mechanic check first and see if any particular problem. If major like mid axle, transmission, engine or chassis, part out this car will be a good choice. However, just a suggest, final answer its up to you. |

Did you mean that insurance won't cover the mods? Cause they'll cover the car, that's why you have insurance.

If the damage is all cosmetic and the car runs and handles as enjoyably and safely as it did before the accident, and, as you say, it's paid off, why not just enjoy driving it, hang on to it, and NOT fix it... or maybe use it as a platform to get started learning how to do your own body work over time? You won't be able to see most of the damage from the inside while driving anyway. Everything else is just vanity.
I can't tell you the number of great cars that I drove around for years and YEARS with major dents in body panels from deer accidents. The quotes to fix'em usually ran into several thousand dollars and I always seemed to find much better uses for those thousands of dollars. Yes, the value of the car was diminished, but I usually drive my cars until they've got so many miles on them that they're pretty much worthless anyway so that didn't matter to me. Just another perspective...

It is also possible that he doesn't have full coverage insurance since its paid off.
Also it is possible that this happened at a track (so the insurance may not cover it). The real question...if given the chance to hit the reset button...do you want to rebuild it or do YOU want something different? If its not totaled, I would have the insurance fix the car. If you had insurance on your modifications (most people don't though) you have a tougher decision. Either way, good luck. |

Sell the mods, use those funds to repair the car. Drive the car stock or sell the car and get something cheaper.

If its "Driver skills" (aka teaching) it could be ok. Probably also depends on the state etc. |

If you want a nice looking car to drive ...... I'd suggest you take the mods that you like off the car and sell the rest of it. If you would like to keep it as a beater/track car ...... pound out the smashed parts and drive it. humfrz |

I agree with "just go ahead and drive it." At least you won't have to worry about getting little scratches and dents. |

Honestly, damage looks pretty close to what a used stock 2013 would cost. Bumper work alone to repaint would run like a grand by itself. The whole side of the car is mangled including the a-pillar. I've seen some frs' that were written off that looked like they had less damage.
I'd bet that there'd be at least some frame damage judging by the bent door sills at the bottom. Last time I checked that was a pretty integral part of the chassis design and I bought into the subaru koolaid marketing. |
