I was never a huge fan of the veyron's exterior, so I'll pass. If I had to get a knockoff, some of the Ferrari and Lamborghini ones look pretty stellar. Nice find though.

It's all about perspective. From the engineering side, this is amazing. Sure Bugatti already set the groundwork but for a single person to do this in his spare time in 9 months is pretty impressive. Looks like he did a fairly quality job from the few pictures they gave.

Although this doesn't hold a candle to the basement built countach

Sure I can give the guy mad props for doing all that work himself. Very cool. However no way in hell I would pay $90k for that. Hell I'd rather put that money towards a Z06 + a turbo kit, or a GTR for that money. What is the sense in putting a Bugatti body kit on a Mercury when ultimately one buys the Bugatti for the performance first and looks second (I personally think there are other cars like the 458 and Zonda that look much better than the Veyron). This whole thing is a cool "art project" but reeks of cheese. I'll pass.

Most Veyron owners buy the Bugatti for status. If you wanted to pretend to have the world's fastest car, then $89K is a great discount. However, like you said, there are better looking and more "practical" cars for under $100K.

This is all poser with no go. The Bugatti also has a great interior, engine sound and the whole point; the acceleration and speed. This car only has the looks of it without any of the rest of it. Wonder what his interior done with genuine leather looks like. Pretending to have a Veyron is just stupid especially when you don't have the go of the Veyron. The go of the Veyron is the whole point of it.

I know one thing... I'd rather pay the insurance on a Cougar than a Bugatti

That's cause you're not rich (neither am I). Only rich people drive a Veyron. So insurance doesn't matter to them. What is your point? You would drive this huh? Want to put some neon lights on the underside? If I could afford a fun $90k this wouldn't even make the list. But I like my sports car to actually be a sports car.

Don't get too tied up in my comments... just making conversation about things that came across my mind as I read the story. I'd rather drive a complete sleeper than something all show and no go. There's no way I would drop that amount of money on this... I can think of a dozen cars I'd rather drive and even more other projects I could put that money towards. I'm interested to see if he sells it though. For 90k he should have swapped the engine, drivetrain, etc to at least make it somewhat fast. There aren't too many people in the market for a Bugatti that can get smacked around by a chevy cruze...

I think my current ride (350Z) is a testament enough that I like a nice combination of oomph and style. I'm hoping the FT offers something similar.

Same, and doesn't the Veyron take 100 octane gas or something like that? Where do you fill it up?

I heard it runs on unicorn tears.

We used to run 100 octane in our bikes here... I think Sunoco was the only station we could find with it but that was a few years back. God that stuff smelled great!
