We are in a nicer area. Much of the stuff like the pic is pretty much gone in much of Detroit. They are working hard st cleaning the place up and going for the tourist money.

I should have let you drive since I was probably still concussed from the impact.

In fairness it looks like loads of people hit it

It is a great example of a city that relied on one industry and then that industry just went away.
They really are doing a great job in recovering through tourism though. Mind you if even one of their sports teams left they may be screwed so maybe the all eggs in one basket lesson was not learned.

Well with the old guy gang we had at LeMay the back in the day stories mostly consisted of " I had one of those". Oh, and "need to sit for a minute".

Had a couple good days hiking around museums.
Good to meet all y'all. Finally got through the Portland traffic and home at 8pm.
Rather than old stories, it was mostly "Ooooh! Look at this particular tiny actuator mechanism! Why would anyone do it that way?"
Then trying to retro engineer it on the fly.

It was much more interesting watching him attempt to walk through a submarine. Hopefully none of the impacts caused too much brain damage.

Oh yes, then they had to pick at ol humfrz when we got to this one ...... saying it was like my first car ......

Then ol @Ultramaroon set me up by mentioning that he may have to sit every now and then to rest his bad knees. I thought ...... yes, I will be able to rest my weak hips ......... but, nooooooo ........ my hips gave out before his knees ....... so, I had to walk ahead and sit on one of the benches, while @Tcoat was telling back in his day stories about when he had one of those cars.

Ol @bcj just listened and kept his mouth shut ....... maybe for fear of triggering a big assed debate from Tcoat .......

Speaking of that, did anyone figure out what that big, chrome lever on the side of that open wheeled racecar was for .. ??

I started to write that it is easy to second-guess hundred year old tech, but no. Actually, it's amazing to see the solutions developed given the materials available at the time. The principles haven't changed.

Still can't get over walking on two layers of soup cans. I'd be desperately looking for a place to stand straight.
