Question Supra rebuild or new frs/brz/86

Which one is better. Buying a brand new frs/brz/86 or buying a $10k mk4 supra and doing a full rebuild? Rebuilding engine, transmission, brakes computer every single thing. With buying an frs/brz/86 i would probably put another $7-10k.
Thanks!

Depends how much you are willing to spend, overnight parts from Japan if you have to !?

They are different beasts, take a spin in each before thinking too deeply.

Neither is better. Invest in a college education and get a stable job first, then worry about cars.

FR-S/BRZ. Just to make an N/A automatic Poopra into stock 6spd TT specs is big money. The Getrag 6spd alone is five to seven thousand dollars.... The 2JZ-GTE engine another couple thousand. Then the bigger brakes, and whatever other differences there were. Not worth it IMO. My friend just paid $27K for a '94 Supra TT auto and he's talking about dropping $8k to convert it to manual. And here I was complaining about having to spend $6k to convert my Audi RS6 to manual!

I've built a lot of stupid old cars in the past; a lot of headaches and time spent in the garage instead of out driving and having the real fun. the best advice I can tell a new driver is to get the newest car they can afford. Get the FR-S/BRZ and spend any leftover money on a helmet, good tires, and entry fees for autocross and track days; you'll be a lot happier!

But if you must be a masochist and attempt a conversion, here's a resource that should help:

I'll take the new platform anyday of the week... I'd be surprised if this Supra even ran lol. It might be your boyhood dream to own one, but it's been to hell and back.... Not to mention discarded.

It makes zero sense unless you got the parts, can do the work yourself, and have money to invest into a 20 year old platform.

To rebuild my old gen7 celica it would be more expensive and time time consuming than buying a new brz.
So i sold it privately (trade in offer was a joke) and bought brz.
Now i have 6yrs warranty and 3yrs free servicing.
Surely it would cost mega dollars to rebuild a supra because it would be hard to find secondhand parts at the wreckers , even if you can do all the work yourself.

10k MKIV? In this market, a 10k MKIV is going cost two FRS worth when it's all said and done.

If you really need to spend your money on a car, listen to @fatoni. Miata with an alignment and a set of decent rubber, go to autocross, profit.
