Always appreciated the Miata, always wanted a car like the Miata, just never wanted the Miata and a big reason had to do with looks and as the years progressed the looks just worsened. I did get a chance to own my like-a-miata with the S2000 but unlike like the original Miata, the S2k was too expensive, too powerful, too heavy. I wanted to have fun at 40mph, not 100mph if you catch my drift (pun intended).
Well this new Miata, has the looks, the sexy suspension design, the low weight and a decent engine and most likely the right price point. IMHO, the ND is what the damn S2000 should have been and never was. So to me, this is a giant leap in the right direction not just for Mazda and the Miata but for this type of car in general. The KIA GT Stinger has potential but I doubt it will check all my boxes: weight/price/suspension design.

More miata pics and light review:
http://carpriest.com/2014/09/10/new-mazda-mx-5-finally/ I still can't see myself driving one, but to each their own. This would def be a good challenge against the FRS/BRZ due to its power/weight ratio.

If that is true, I expect an optional turbo. |

I know its hard to believe as you guys have off shore oil drilling just a days drive away but you have to consider CAFE standards. 50mpg Miata could possible mean the return of the RX-7/9. |

2200 pounds and 130hp is still faster than the average car off the lot, iirc. Would sell for just north of 20g if this is the case.

I hope that news is wrong. But high speeds has never been the point of a Miata. This also leaves room for better engine refresh.

From what I saw, it was supposed to be closer to 190 hp which would make sense with the sky active tech. Going to be a great car to drive either way! If it does end up with 190, it will undoubtedly outperform the twins in damn near every way. That being said, it would still be a convertible and I'm not a fan of verts in the slightest.

These specs aren't for the US market. The Miata has always come with a choice of two engines in other markets. The US will probably get the 2.0 L version of the same engine, making somewhere between 170-180 hp.

Let's be honest. If Mazda released the new MX-5 with an engine that made under 150hp, they would get pretty trashed by every review that said the car was underpowered. |

If the new MX-5 comes with the present 2.0L Skyactive engine which makes 155HP and 154FT/LB TQ and weighs the projected 2260LBs it would still be pretty potent and would likely be the equal of the twins on the track, 0-60 and 1/4 mile. I fully expect 170+ NA power.

Tops it is going to be 175 hp...on the low end it will have at least 160 hp....
Who knows though, Mazda sure enjoys being a co**tease |
