FT86 was speculation for quite a while. This seems more legitimate than any other news we hear about a turbo BRZ/FRS for the next generation (which will never happen, ever). The Toyota-BMW partnership has been confirmed so if anything this is where we were at ~5-6 years ago before the FRS/BRZ/GT86 release...

"Toyota on the other hand will opt for a 3.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and another model with a plug-in hybrid powertrain."

So does this mean there is a possibility of a standard 3.0 V6 turbo with no hybrid that might be affordable to us plebs?

What a crock of shit. One of the best looking sports cars to ever wear a Toyota badge, or any badge for that matter.

Eloquent. Maybe you could say what other cars wearing a Toyota badge and designed by Calty float your boat?

Besides FR-S, the only previous Toyota or Scion that I'd call beautiful and timeless was this:

Nope, as I said, FT-1 has already aged. Look at the new designs from Ferrari and McLaren to see progress. Neither of them had to resort to silly tricks like hydraulic spoilers to generate massive downforce plus they had to package larger power trains behind the seats.

Calty seems have copied the ugliest aspects of a Porsche GT3 and then designed something out of the last decade when passenger car aero was thought to be a result of wings, less so from more effective splitters, trays and diffusers.

They already showed FT-1 v. 2.0 and changed the theme from sport to luxury with paint and interior changes. They didn't do that on a whim, it's a result of focus group polling.

Each to their own, but I see FT-1 about as long lasting but not as interesting as this look:

I honestly don't like it all that much.

From the rear quarter panels back, I think it looks awesome. The front is just extremely ugly to me. Makes me think of a knockoff Enzo front bumper.

Both the McLaren P1 and the 675LT (the most recent and most extreme car below the P1) have active rear spoilers. So does the LaFerrari:

I also thought the mk2 MR2 was gorgeous.

This thing is an evolved TVR Sagaris and the TVR still looks good. I can't think of a better idea than a Toyota TVR. Even the FRS has potential to considered a classic later on down the line.

If you think the FT-1 has aged then the new Corvette must look like something from the 80's by now.

The fact he doesn't know what has or doesn't have active spoilers, and also thinks I have to defend every Calty design because the FT-1 looks great shows what level of expertise we are dealing with here. He probably looks at the front end of a Formula 1 car and says "ewww".

Also, LOL at the comparison to a GT3. There is absolutely no Porsche GT3 in this car. At least in any degree to normal people with basic eyesight. The LFA copied the hood slit for aero. That's about as close as the FT-1 gets.

They painted the concept a new color because a focus group told them to? ROFLMAO! You're out there bro.

It's nice to have an opinion about how a car looks. It's another to think your opinion that it's ugly and has aged is in fact the absolute truth.

Both the McLaren P1 and the 675LT (the most recent and most extreme car below the P1) have active rear spoilers. So does the LaFerrari:
You and the other kid are apparently ignorant of the fact that the most recently revealed McLaren, the 570S that has no active rear spoiler, was announced in New York after the 675LT was revealed in Geneva.

The Ferrari 488, also more recent and contemporary than LaFerrari, has no need for an active rear wing, either.

As a former owner of a Mk. IV Supra TT Anniversary Edition, I was never impressed with the design, especially the hyperthyroid headlights and boy racer 3' high spoiler ruining an otherwise safe, vanilla GT coupe design. The N/A Mk. IV looked better balanced, IMO. The resale market seems to agree. I've yet to see any Mk. IV appreciate in value.

Like I said, each to their own, and if someone actually admires the C7 bodywork then it's understandable why they also like the overdone FT-1 prototype.

Times and tastes are changing. The 2016 NSX has no active rear spoiler. Same for the 2016 GT-R. Both of those are said to be FT-1 competitors should it make it into production.

Maybe I'll change my mind after I live with one for a week or so, we're talking about a prototype after all. So, with time and more focus grouping, the production car would likely look much different.
