Reconditioned Rear Bumper - Watch Out for the textured surface

FYI to anyone getting their rear bumper cover repaired at a body shop under insurance. They'll try to get you to accept a recondition, in some cases, no problem, make sure the shape is good, buff the scrape, fill the surface if necessary, paint, and go.

If the textured part of the bumper is damaged watch out. I had someone lazy approving this work and they tried to fill in the textured plastic and spray it matte black (poorly, and it looks like spray paint) in an attempt to save a few bucks.

Pay attention when you pick up any car from any shop or when you're searching for a used car. This bit of the bumper isn't supposed to be 'smooth'. It might be a desirable look for some if performed with care, but mine came out sloppy and I'll be getting a replacement bumper out of the insurance/body shop in a few days.

Edit: Repair attempt #3 I finally just took it home, there's a little paint run on the right side of the rear bumper, they managed to 'buff out' most of it but it's still there, maybe some day I'll wet sand it down but as it is the bumper looks way better than it did before, I just wish I had taken the insurance check, sanded off the messed up part of the texture and then done touch up paint myself =/

0/3 on body shops over my life, sadly if you want something done right these days you have to do it yourself.

How it looked after accident:

That's some bullshit there. I hate how it's a game of doing as little as possible and hoping the customer puts up with it.

A blind man would be glad to see it!

There really is no substitute for replacing unpainted parts since the finish can never be matched.
