Hawk brake pads

I've tried HPS, HP+, and 5.0 pads in the past on my autox/HPDE car that is also a sometimes DD and didn't really like them, although I have heard that the new HP+ pads are much better than the old ones.

Are there any pads that Hawk makes that are really the best in any category? It could be dedicated track pads, ceramic daily driver pads, etc? I occasionally get small contingencies from them and appreciate their support.

Are you stuck on Hawk for the contingency?

Its Hawk or nothing. You actually don't even need to run Hawk pads to get the contingency. I was asking more about where to spend it. I have a truck as well.

I think the DTC-60 is just fine on the track. Functions fine on the street too.

Personally, I have not had good experiences with Hawk pads on other vehicles, and I've avoided them for this vehicle. My main issue has been on almost every compound their dust is corrosive and sticks badly when wetted, meaning that it's very difficult to remove and often will pit the wheel barrels.

I understand you have a contingency, but you can always choose to not spend that contingency and go buy brake pads you'll actually like.

Also how did this go into the Oil/Fluid subforum instead of the Brake subforum?

Depends on the actual application of what you need.

  1. Use contingency to get Hawk pads.
  2. Sell the Hawk pads.
  3. Buy better pads.

I would strongly advise against using Hawk HP+ for anybody taking their car to the track. Sure, it's possible they might hold up on the track for some people in some situations but as most progress and even some out the gate Hawk HP+ are not sufficient for track use. I'm not just hating on Hawk although I'm not a fan of them. Run one of Hawk's track pads if you want to use Hawk ie: DTC-60 but don't use HP+ FFS.

I'd prefer to find a use for the free money. Maybe their ceramic street pads don't cause the problems you described, for example. I'm sure they make good pads for some application that I can use.

I put this in the maintenance subforum. Mods, feel free to move it.

The noise is alright, acceptable. It has a lot of brake dust, i have to clean my wheel every 2-3 weeks.

well..too bad...I bought them just half years ago and still have plenty left, I guess I will be stuck with them for at least 2-3 more tracks...
But it holds pretty well tho, I like the initial bite when I brake hard before into the corner, I felt like my whole body is being throw out.

It is an imposing feeling when stomping on your brake pedal with your first set of performance brake pads. Ultimately, managing your tire grip and loading them up accordingly provides maximum braking potential.
