To put it simply, yes. There are a few things you can do to make it work.

A lower temp thermostat (not mishimoto).

Remove the lower engine cover (if you do, remove the one behind it too) or get a baffled one.

Water wetter with distilled water as a coolant.

Tune the fans to come on earlier to work with the thermostat.

The fans and the thermostat won't help much once you start to build heat and driving at high speeds. But it will give you a cooler engine when you start your trip and cools down more when you let off or slow down in traffic.

From my experience if the outside temp is less than or around 30c you should be fine at 100mph. At 40c you might run a bit hot but not over heat. With a stock short block I wouldn't push it if the coolant temp gets to about 95c. That's how I blew my first engine

Not if you live somewhere that freezes in the winter.

I track it without heat issues.

thanks for the info! sounds like I should be considering a supercharger no matter how much I would prefer to run this turbo setup. Last thing i want is to overheat my engine or oil a long way away from home. I think the autobahn has similar stress on the engine as compared to a track, because the germans won't let you sit in a lane with cruise control set at 80 mph for two hours.

Do you have the GPP kit with the GTX2871 or the base kit with the T518?

I have the T518Z kit.

PM me to order, especially if you want your kit prepped the way mine is.

Low line = 2017 baseline (205hp crank)
2nd line = wastegate, 91 octane (~310hp crank)
3rd line = wastegate, e70 (flex) (~370hp crank)
high line = 10.5psi at peak power, e70 (flex) (~450hp crank)

Due to the nature of the dyno, the graph doesn't accurately represent how quickly the setup actually spools; I boost within 0.3s of throttle input from being off throttle, and can have full boost well before 3000 RPM.

Also, note that this was with a stock front pipe, and stock exhaust!

I've been meaning to ask you, what sold you on this kit as compared to other kits on the market. Also, given your experience and respected opinions, how do you view the drivability of this on track as compared to other turbo kits or the popular supercharger options?

A lot of kits on the market copy this kit, or use this kit as a basis for their kit, with minor alterations to make it "unique".

This kit is well engineered, with a carefully selected, properly sized turbo. Many other kits offer more "features" to attempt to boost their perceived value. Those "features", in reality, are not needed for most users, including myself.

Note the lack of a BOV. I don't have to re-spool from scratch every time I transition on-off-on throttle, and the turbo is strong enough to handle not having a BOV.

Mike,

Are you using the base t518z turbo from like 2014? I currently have the T620z that I bought back in 2014, do you have an idea what the max boost these turbos can go up to?

Full CSG ceramic coating on the exhaust components and shields, + DEI wrap, + boost controller. The hardware itself is unchanged.
