All of the cars you named get horrible fuel economy for a daily. Not to mention most are just dated luxury sport. The only car I would even recommend from that list is the IS300. However, if you did find a 5 speed IS300 you would definitely be overpaying simply because they're so rare and at that point you might as well mod the car because you've got a standard 2JZ which is a complete waste to daily.

Just get a RSX TypeS or some other newer Honda and call it a day.

To further elaborate on what Bobblehead said, insurance on just about anything in the same price range will be less than a WRX. They are one of the most expensive "sports cars" to insure. The LGT might be a better option.

As for the SVT, the answer is no. The SVT had a lot of work put into the engine, suspension, and even some on the exterior. The '04-'05 pseudo-ST was just a bigger engine and some trim pieces. The first generation Focus was different from the Mazda3 suspension wise. The Mazda3 was using the global platform that wasn't introduced to the USDM Focus until MY2012. So it might be worth a look, it might not.

The best TSX you can find in that price range. Damn fine cars.

If you don't have a need to go driving over a snowy mountain pass or drifting around a race track, the drivetrain layout of your DD should be somewhat irrelevant. But ultimately, get what you want. The TSX is fun to drive too.

I can't bring myself to recommend anything German without a warranty.

If you want reliability and fuel economy stop looking at the GT and start looking at the i.

Fast, Reliable, Cheap, pick 2, that should have been the first response.

Let me try a different angle and see if it helps my decision:

What are the fastest or most fun cars for $10k that are reliable and have 4/5 doors?

It's been said already but I'd say the TSX still fits the requirements. It's not the fastest but it's still fun and reliable.

I bought a Honda Fit with only 19k miles on it for $10k. I'm guessing the Fit should last for 10+ years. It's not fast, but it's very practical and I actually enjoy driving it just as much as my FRS on the streets.

Ive owned both a 2005 Legacy GT Limited and a 2002 WRX, I much prefer the WRX and costs between them are negligible.

You may be able to find a 06 audi a3 wagon. I really like the look of those, 200-300hp, the base model had fwd and the top one had awd. 19/29mpg if I remember correctly.

I owned a 2011 A3 sportback 6MT. Had an intake and Stage 1 tune on it. It was fast and hell (when the front tires had traction) and had a great interior, but I sold it at roughly 25k miles. Had cylinder misfires twice and had to replace 3 ignition coils and the intake manifold under warranty. Few months later the owner who bought it from me started complaining about starter and clutch problems, RIGHT after the warranty expired. I was so glad I dumped it.

So no, not looking to get back into one of those.

Stay away from high mileage European. MazdaSpeed3 is the best route to go.

I think I'd rather have the TSX than a Mazdaspeed 3.

A couple of people on another forum suggested the E36 M3. They said with a cooling system overhaul and replaced suspension components, it's a reliable car at 100k+ miles. Does anyone here have experience with these?
