It's fine. The part of the gasket you can see is not actually doing anything. It's outside the perimeter of the mating surfaces. It cracks because the excess is literally squeezed out a bit. Pretty common.

not lazy, went through the whole thread and was looking for different verbiage. Ended up going in with out the part numbers and just talking with the Toyota parts guy. I do not have the most extensive history mechanically and thought the part would be referred to as crush washer not gasket so I assumed this was not the part I was looking for or else I would not have asked. Thank you for the heads up, I saw that at the start and assumed it was not what I was looking for as in the thread most posters referred to it as a crush washer and not a gasket. That and when referring to a gasket my only experience was with a head gasket, so I assumed this was not the part I needed. I ended up going in and talking with them about what I was doing what I might need.

Question:
Is using a crush washer really important? Or it's also possible to use a normal m18 washer to seal the plug? Thanks! |

Critical not only for sealing but also to prevent damaging the mating surfaces between the bolt flange and the seat. That's why, in the biz, they've gotten away from calling them washers. They really are (should be) one-time-use gaskets.

However, what is the difference between the small thin kind and the thicker ones? Ala the drain plug "washer" and the filler plug "washer" |

Honestly, sometimes it's just "We buy lots of these because we already use them on that other thing so it's cheaper by $0.02/1000 units."

Amazing
Just changed the transmission and differential oil with Motul 300 and what a difference it's made. I feel more confident going into 2nd gear from 1st now that it's smoother.

Ok, so I have a really dumb question about filling the trans fluid. I drained it, and have put nearly 3qts in. It finally started seeping out of the hole, and it just keeps on coming out. I can fit my pinky finger in there, but can't feel the fluid at all. It HAS to be full by now, using nearly 3qts. I've cleaned the threads multiple times and the area where it's leaking and it's definitely still seeping out. However...still can't feel the oil level with my finger.
I'm sure I'm making this more difficult than it really is, but I'm worried that if I call it good and button it up...I may find out the hard way that there isn't enough fluid in there. It's a little disconcerting when I can't seem to feel the oil AT ALL inside the hole with my finger. Car is absolutely level. Thoughts? I'm just about out of oil... |

If its leaking out and then stopping, the oil is right at the level of the hole. If oil keeps seeping out, then the oil level is higher than the hole. Maybe you can't feel with the tip of your finger? I think you're just over thinking/complicating it. Its only supposed to take 2.2L. You are working on an frs or brz, right? jkjk |

@Apex_BRZ I suspect your car isn't perfectly level. You may be slightly overfilled if you've actually put in that much fluid. I'd let it seep until it stops completely, definitely don't add more fluid.
