Cuz you’re retired & don’t make money anymore... that might be the reason. Btw do you live off 401 & IRA or you have pension too? My current job don’t earn much money, but pension is a nice bonus so I’ve been working there for over 10yrs

I have a pension and a retirement and SS.

mrs humfrz has a retirement and SS.

Yes, being vested in a pension is a good thing ....... keep it up!

If I'm really lucky I'll still have a retirement fund. If I'm slightly less lucky I'll still have a job at your age.

I was already told this by my school teacher in elementary school back in the late 80's.

Just remember @ichitaka05 had to pay too, he just overpaid, so basically he got his own money back after loaning it to his favorite Uncle for 1 to 12 months interest free.

That's my goal every year. I have mine narrowed in to where I pretty much either get back or owe about $500 a year under normal circumstances. It only varies by my charitable contributions and if I contribute extra to my HSA or 401K accounts.

Haha true and you can add more to it even after the new year can't you? Or do you have to figure that out in December?

I'm going save a bunch of money on my taxes by finishing this 3-way swap into an 05 impreza shell. (donor car pictured not the shell)

My wife is an accountant and still does not seem to understand this concept! She still thinks of it as the government "giving" us money. No, it is already our money they just used it for a year before returning it to us. If I had been able to invest the $5K extra they held onto I could have made some money on it instead of them. I already give them 43% of my income so why do they feel the need to hold onto extra?

I cant wait for hella people to get small returns next year since they reworked the withholding systems and many take home more each paycheck now. Gonna be funny to see people pissed cuz they dont understand.

You can add more to both your non-Roth IRA and your HSA right up until the tax deadline. If I owe taxes I'll make an offsetting contribution to one of the other if I haven't already maxed it out to minimize that.

You just have to remember it reduces your tax burden by your tax rate. So, if you are in a 20% federal income tax bracket you have to contribute $100 to reduce your owed tax by $20.
