How long does opti coat last?

For those of you who have gotten it or apply it.

How long is the coating supposed to last given regular wash / rinsing as needed?

from what I gather, it's supposed to be considered permanent. with proper upkeep, you won't need to reapply or wax ever again

That's what I've gathered from reading here but wanted a straight answer. I've just been told that it generally lasts 2 years from another source so I wanted to verify with the community.

I don't think it lasts forever. It lasts a very long time though. Much longer than regular wax.

It has only been around since 2004 I believe, but the version of Opti-Guard we all know and love wasn't released until 2008. There hasn't been enough time to tell what permanent means as far as OG goes, but I can say that I started using it as soon as it was available for me to purchase and I still regularly wash cars for people who had me apply it back then and it still looks like the day I applied it.

Don't go thinking that with OG you can just run through automatic car washes (the type with brushes) and not hurt anything, but even a touchless automatic shouldn't really affect it.

It is a resin-based coating that chemically cross-links just like clear coat as it cures, and surface abrasion is the only way to remove it.
