FR-S vs S/C SRT8
Okay... I know it's not about street racing, and this isn't. Don't get offended or think I was racing because I wasn't. This is an observation of mine.
I had a '07 Charger SRT8 with a Procharger and other goodies that made 497whp SAE (527 uncorrected) and weighed like 1.5x (est 4250lbs, weight of s/c plus wider wheels/tires, was 4160lbs stock) as an FR-S with some highway gears (3.06) and a 5spd auto slushbox. I now have an FR-S stock aside from a sound tube delete, and muffler delete (removed spare etc for local driving as well).... from point A to point B starting @ a 50mph roll.... the FR-S does 50-86mph... the SRT8 went 50-100mph... Yes, I know it's slower, Captain Obvious, but it's not that far off for stock considering the work I did to the Charger. Ready to get this to 300+whp (lacking funds as always) and unleash the beast! lol

hmmm...I had a 300C SRT8 that was stock other than a resonator delete and the FR-S feels like it's powered by a twisted rubber band in comparison...you sure your s/c was working right?

Oh it definitely worked just fine, just a comparison of say...passing mph between vehicles of entirely different power levels and weights. I could measure out how far that stretch of road is, I imagine its only 100yds or so. I expected the FRS to be substantially slower but only 14mph isn't too bad. It's just over 2 sec slower in the 1000' at local dragstrips, with the Charger on street tires. I'll just mention that with damp roads or when it was cold the Charger would spin the 315's from a 60mph hit.
I agree its not anywhere near the same level of acceleration, but its not as far off as I expected. The FRS is anemic, hence my desire to turbo it (soon). 2700lbs, rwd with a 6spd. If I can get it to hook it should put down very impressive times with much less power.

14mph slower doesn't tell the entire story there - because it's going slower, it is also taking longer to cover the same distance, which means that its accelerating for a longer time than the Charger is, but it's still only gaining 36mph (50-86) vs the Charger's 50mph gain. Not that that should surprise anyone...

im going to go out on a limb here and chalk that up due to gearing and maybe an extra shift at those speeds.

My FRS is a MT lol... Definitely shorter gearing than the Charger (with the 5spd auto and 3.06 factory rear it was geared to a theoretical 211mph up top). I had it to 175+ a few times, which as far as I know, an FRS/BRZ is incapable of because with the 4.10 rear gear ratio the MT runs out at a theoretical at 168mph iirc.
My FRS should be boosted in the late spring/early summer of '14. Looking for a modest 300whp on 91/93 and I'll get an e85 tune as well. Planning to go with a GTX30R, and I do not plan to max out the turbo until I get a built "middle end". Yes the 14mph difference is only part of the story. The 50-100 run in the Charger may have taken 5 seconds where as the 50-86 run in the FRS may have taken 8 seconds. It just surprised me that it was only off by 14mph. I was expecting it to be substantially less. Say... 30-40mph less. Essentially I was attemting to provide an example of power to weight ratio. Taking gearing and traction out of the equation, it doesn't require some obscene amount of power to accelerate quickly if the car is relatively light.

Don't look at the speed.
Look at the time. 3 seconds is an eternity. |

Pretty sure a lot of people are running much more than a second quicker after going FI. A few are knocking on high 10's in the 1/4, easily 4+ seconds quicker than stock. When you go from DD'ing a low 12/high 11 second 2+ton sedan to a low 15/high 14 sec car, its brutally apparent, but its so tempting to make more power in a car that is 700lbs lighter than a C7 Corvette.
Just for comparison sake... Charger on the left (on 315 Conti DWS, aka not DR's/Slicks) vs FRS. Clearly its slower, never said it wouldn't be, but for the point I've been trying to make, 500whp and 4200+lbs vs 165whp 2700lbs. Even things up a bit, say 300whp in an FRS/BRZ and see what happens. 1.97 60' 2.20 5.27 330' 6.17 7.94@93 1/8 9.49@75 10.08@106 1k' 12.14@87 Also... I know a lot of people don't see the point in spending large sums of money to modify a car, but $8k for a turbo/clutch etc is worth it and still way less than I have invested into previous vehicles.

Yes...lots of peeps running low 13's on street tires and 250-300whp, a few running quicker. Then there is Dynosty and Accelerated Performance, running mid 450ish and drag radials or slicks and knocking on 10's...just I like said. A low 13 is almost 2 seconds quicker than stock, and easily attainable on pump gas with an exhaust and tune, and turbo of course. I won't be on street tires on e85 to say the least.

A camry V6 with Bolt on will run low 13 as well.
Thing is that in racing, 1 second is already forever, and very true that 3 seconds is an eternity |

Any of the Turbo kits will get you to 13.5 and less, (more like 12.5-13.3 range). How is that 1 second?
