I messed up
I'm detailing my car. I wasnt thinking and just grabbed a can on wax off the shelf. I have already finished 2 panels before i realized i was using SC Johnson (furniture wax). Is this going to mess up my paint job?

If you're worried about it, you can strip it with Wax and Grease Remover.

I don't mind leaving it on as long as it doesn't harm the clear coat. It looks fine but I just want to get a second opinion.

I went to the website. The ingredients are...
Deoderized Naptha (Sublomizer) Carnauba Wax Microcrystalline Wax Paraffin It doesn't say anything about acids. I'm going to go over with another coat of car wax and call it a day. Thanks guys. |

You'll be fine, unless the wax contains some sort of dye or stain, such as the ones you use on wood. Does you car now have a pine sol smell? @tmcmullins these would harm it....should you apply it and leave it.

There's different gradations of messing up.
Accidentally putting paint thinner on your car is a huge screw up. Pouring gasoline is a crew up. If it strips the paint, guess what time for aftermarket fenders!! Lol

I definitely got off easy this time. The cans of wax were right next to each other too. I'm going to take some time a organize everything. car stuff in one spot, wood stuff in another.

I sprayed two panels with tire shine instead of waterless wash yesterday because I grabbed the wrong spray bottle, so I feel your pain!

Actually, SC Johnson wax is what I use to keep bare metal surfaces (polished aluminum wheels) from tarnishing. It's a great insulator wax. It is safe for use on paint, but I'd have to be desperate to use it only because it's difficult to buff off residue. Collinite 845 is the equivalent insulator wax, but it's much easier to remove, btw.
You're fine. Just strip the waxed panels with a Dawn wash. |

Meh. Throw a tablecloth over it and use it as extra seating at dinner time.
