Seat Delete / Audio system install...

I've searched around and haven't really found any good examples, but I was wondering whether it is a good idea or not to mount subs in a seat delete replacement back. It seems like a good idea and those after market kits look like they provide an awesome canvas to create a cool system. Anyone have any experience or know where I can look more into this? Thanks!

EDIT: Benefits I'm seeking through going this route would be retained trunk (even increased?) space, and I think I read they pack those kits with sound dampening foam (or insulation) to attempt to help reduce cabin noise coming from the rear (never ridden in a car with one of those so that's obviously unconfirmed.)

Besides from internet pics you'll have to do a custom fab job.

Is it a good idea? Not really you really don't gain much room even if you do make it so the back rests fold down. You'll also lose access to the fuel pump if ever need to get in there.

As for sound dampening, you can buy them and install them with out audio equipment and gain noiseless cabin.

I recommend you talk to a custom audio shop maybe they can help you out more than some joe blow from the internet

Thanks for the info! I had no idea about the fuel pump issue, and that's exactly why sometimes you gotta look to a joe blow from the internet for advice haha.

I did exactly that. Need to upload some pictures to Imgur to show what i did.

If I can find the damn camera......
It was a custom rear seat delete with a sealed box 10" JL sub in the passenger side. 5 channel amp under the passenger seat.

Well the camera with a ton of pictures of the whole audio system is missing. Everything from the CLD, CCF and MLV treatments, door and cavaty treaments, amp install under the passenger seat. Lots of pictures of the sealed box build and rear seat. It was all built around a Pioneer DEH-80PRS with a tweeter/mid/sub active Xover network and time aligned speaker position tuning. It is not a sexy double din unit but is well known in the car audio community as a low cost SQ head unit with high qual D to A preamp that allows for an active xover setup.

The tweeters are the Scanspeak Iluminators. They are pricey but are quite the cats ass.

The mids are SB Acoustics SB17NRXC35-4, 6" Woofer

So I took a few pics yesterday of the sub with my old camera. It is a sealed box with a JL Audio 10TW3-D4 .

Ghetto tweeter install. No bouncing off the windshield shit. Scanspseaks are awesome. Will do a nicer 3d printed mini enclosure next Winter.

Good news!! I found the Camera with pictures. I'm uploading now and will post some that show more detail on the sub, rear seat delete and amplifier mounting. And sound treatment too.
Please note that bottom of the passenger seat has some sensors and wires that had to be relocated slightly to allow for the amplifier.

The panels for the seat delete are made from Baltic Birch, 1/4" thick with stiffening at edges and panel midspans. I started out with cardboard templates, then went to 1/8 masonite for the patterns used to cut the BB.

I was lazy and did not pictures the doors but a lot of work went into them. The usual CLD tiles, then I created sealed bags with 1" mineral wool; these were adhered to the outer skin above and below the cross beam. These are for taming the all the energy from the backside of SB Acoustics drivers. Mid-bass is strong and tight.

BTW, the MLV used was thinner than usual, at 1/2 lb/sqft. I was willing to compromise a bit to save some weight.

The sub enclosure sides and bottom are contoured to match the curves of the body over the fuel tank. Again, I started with cardboard templates. Lets just say I have a lot of time on this project and researching methods on the DIYMA.COM forums.
