If you could paint your car any colour...

what would it be? So anyone who hawks the forums knows the front end of my 86 is looking all fucked up, and yes it was my fault. I've gotten estimates that range from 4000-6000, and no I'm not going through insurance.

Well lady luck has shown her light my way once again it seems. My buddy who lives in the same barracks as me is still here apparently (I just got back to base) and we're going to be here for a while, close to a year or longer. He paints planes for a living, also does metal/composite work etc. Turns out since our military isn't that busy most of the time they're allowed to bring projects in. So he said it wouldn't be a problem if I wanted to bring my car in and he'd repaint it, for a case of beer lol.

But yeah point is this means that initial estimate of 4000-6000 will be cut down significantly. I need to buy a bumper cover, a headlight, a fender and a hood, and the paint itself. So hopefully under $3000 at the absolute most, but I think if I look around enough over the next few months I'll be able to get the parts salvage or whatever for much cheaper.

So what colour would you go with if you had a choice. Metallic paint is not an option just due to the nature of his work, he said since aircraft don't get metallic paint he just doesn't want to risk it as he doesn't have enough experience with it.

British racing green if it's a solid (non-metallic) colour.

Ah, I didn't think of that. That would definitely be very unique on one of these cars. Interesting...

This would be a hard question. I have always had black cars, but there are a few colors I really like. One is British racing green. Another is some Supra colors: baltic blue, and royal sapphire pearl. Porsches midnight blue is also a fav. There are some dark-toned greens or browns, almost black looking at night that I like on classic muscle cars.

Do you have pics of the damage?

I'm asking because i had similar damage and i need a new radiator support.

Because my car is mostly track I just used a hammer and got it close enough. I epoxy my headlight, hammered out my rad support, used washers to get my hood to latch close, zip ties to hold in my air intake, and reused the bent bumper and fender.

My point is the damage might be a little more than you think. If i was getting almost free paint i would have my radiator support professionally replaced with new bumper and fenders that align correctly. Then take it for the free paint.

Good luck bro, post before and after pics please

The passenger side fender is also dented pretty bad, but it's not moved in or anything.

I've had it estimated 6 times now. I'm pretty sure I won't need a new rad support though, the bumper cover is only moved in about 1/2inch, I will need a new bumper absorber though I forgot to mention, I was just going to go with a drift bar.

The hood still closes fine, but the right side of the bumper sits about half an inch under it. And yeah the plan was to buy the parts and have a shop pull out the rad support so everything sits aligned, luckily now that I'm closer to home I have a buddy who owns a shop so I'm seeing how much it'll be.

Hopefully when they pull off the damaged parts there's won't be anything else too severe. But it was a *very* slow impact.

British Racing Green is so classic. In the same respect, Burnt Orange would be nice. Lastly however, I love Lunar Storm. If I could repaint my BRZ, it would be that color.

Maroon or orange would be my choices, but you can't have a metallic color... I still vote orange. The orange the Elise comes in would be awesome on this car

I'd be interested in picking up your old bumper if you just plan to toss it, depending on the damage of course.
