Spare tire compartment organizer

Is there something similar to this that fits the 86 spare tire space?

I am ok replacing the spare with a can of fix-a-flat to gain the extra space.

why not just use the trunk and keep the spare, any reason you want it gone?

The Aussie versions of the 86 didn't have a spare at all and came with something similar. Someone may have a part number somewhere.

If you want to run 'shine, just get a couple of blatters and stick them where the spare is. No need for a fancy compartment.

I don't know nothin' 'bout runnin' no 'shine if anyone asks.

Do you mean why didn't they come with a spare ?

I don't know but I'll guess:

* save weight?

* reduce costs?

* increase storage space?

* they just feel lucky?

Nah, the real reason is that if you get out of your car to change the tire there a good chance one of the myriad deadly animals is likely to show up and kill you for the fun of it.

That would work nicely. Anyone know the part number?

Btw do you guys get punctures that often? I had 1 in over 20 years. (Fixed with a can of fix-a-flat, I had removed the spare from that car too).

Oh, I ran all over the Western US and Canada for 88,000 miles in a miata without a spare tire. Never had a flat. Didn't much bother me; however, I feel better by having a spare tire in my FR-S.

Is no one worried about fix-a-flat effecting TPMS or that interior of the wheel the next time someone replaces the tire? Or is that a non issue now with fix a flat?

When is the last time you checked the pressure in the spare?

According to a couple articles from back then, Australia originally ordered the car from Toyota with a full-size spare without realizing how much space it would take up in the back. At which point for some reason they opted to ditch the spare all together rather than switch to a donut.

There's so much crap on the road here in Houston I usually pick up a nail a year. That being said, I haven't had to actually change my tire on the road but for maybe once in my life. It's usually a slow leak that I find a day or two later, and can reinflate and drive on until I have a chance to get it plugged.

I've always heard fix-a-flat ruins a tire (don't know if that's actually true) and should only be used if there's no other option. I'd be fine losing the spare around town but would probably keep it for road trips - or at least carry a plug kit.

Plus you know, the car is already slightly front biased for weight distribution - pulling the donut out will just move it more forward. Handling baby!
