Essex AP Sprint kit owners--need your help & feedback--have an issue.
I've been a bit hesitant to post this, but not getting any satisfaction on an issue--so I need to find out if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.
My system makes an unusual sound--similar to being near a powerline, or to a lesser extent, putting a playing card in your bike's spokes. I'm 99.9% certain the kit was installed properly, as I thrashed it @ Roebling Road & had no issues whatsoever w/ performance, and it works normally otherwise. I've run the pads that came w/ the kit & Hawk HPS & HP+. They all make the same sound in vid below. The pads are the HPS in vid. I've gone back & forth w/ Dave ROR on PM & he's not having a similar experience. He has many more miles & track days on his setup--so, if anything, his have more abuse than mine. If this is being experienced by others--well then I'm okay w/ that--as these are a works part & I understand that. If I'm the only one... Well, I think this should be rectified one way or another. It's a bit hard to make out the sound (sorry for the poor vid), but if you listen closely, the sound can be made out. It's fairly clear abt 2/3 way in, right after I lift off the throttle. TIA... http://www.flickr.com/photos/57782397@N04/8631670197/

My Hawk HPS pads make that "card in bike wheel" noise. I believe CSG Mike said the same as well. It's not nearly as noticeable with my track C300 pads.
It's very high pitch and if you're driving against a wall it's much more noticeable. I asked about it in this thread and Jeff answered on it, plus my brake fluid coming from piston question. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23683 Quote:

My hearing must suck. I really don't hear that noise. I did mention the hawk pads being a little smaller, but so are the CLs and I don't have a constant noise while driving like that.

I was thinking maybe the J-hooks are hitting the pads, but I would think it would break off little pieces of the actual rotor or pads. I've driven about 2500 miles on my Sprint kit and have inspected them routinely, haven't noticed any abnormal wear. IMO I have a feeling the J-hooks might be acting like suction cups if that makes sense. |

Okay, so this may be normal then... It's not a clacking sound of the pads moving within the caliper, I know what that noise is.
Also, is anyone experiencing what looks like fine metallic brake material on the rear fascia? I've changed exhaust components, so I'm not sure if it's the brake materials, or exhaust residue. It's definitely metallic... Thanks, guys... |

You will, however, hear it less as the rotors wear, and it'll come back again when you swap on fresh rotors. I'm pretty sure @Dave-ROR is the first to finish off a set of rotors on the AP Sprint kit, so he may be able to elaborate more. (somewhat) Shameless self-promotion: We are authorized dealers for the Essex AP Racing kits! |

Hmm I did basically throw them on the car and track it immediately so perhaps I never heard this noise because I was beating on mine from day one... I'll listen when the new rotors come in wednesday, but they will be burnished already
