Nice job on the rebuild, may want to consider some ARP wheel studs next! Have fun rebuilding the FRS.

So at my last two track days I kept getting the coil pack misfire codes, I wasn't too surprised considering they were still the original coil packs on the car. Finally got time to update to the latest coil packs and updated engine harness. Also replaced the plugs while I was there...it was a bear of a job but pleased with the results.
Disassembly: Old harness and plugs out: 6 year old plugs with 30,000 miles, 20,000 of street use....10,000 of tuned track use... Back together and running reward...

Took it to Sebring yesterday and with the 90 degree temps had no coil pack issues and set my fastest ever time!
Almost got it on video but was using a new GoPro Hero Black and had the settings jacked up so it was only taking 2 minute videos...but the sound and quality are nice....

In 2015 they went to a new style coil pack (P/N:22433AA730) and the harness connector is different compared to the older 2013-2014 style. If you have a 2013 or a 2014 there are updated engine harnesses available to use the updated (improved) coil packs. The harnesses also have the improved shielding and grounding the 2015 and newer models got.
For 2013 models the updated harness is P/N: 24020AG620 For 2014 models the updated harness is P/N: 24020AG080 NOTE: There is no interchange between the old and new parts. For example, the new part number engine harness and new part number ignition coils must be installed as a set. You cannot use the newer coil packs with the old harness and you cannot use the older coil packs with the new harness. It is all part of TSB #07-120-17R to Address DTCs P0351, P0352, P0353 and / or P0354

Would someone with a 2014 have to go with an updated 2014 harness if they wanted to upgrade to the newer coilpack? Or could they go with, say, a used 2015 engine harness off ebay? I notice the 2014 harness (the updated one, I assume) goes for around $1200 new, whereas a used 2015 can be gotten for around $200 on ebay. Thanks! This is the 2014 FR-S part number for the engine harness; I'm assuming it incorporates the updates in the equivalent Subaru part: https://parts.autonationtoyotasoutha...ess-su00302285 |

Interesting -- maybe the Toyota part number for the engine harness incorporates all of the electrical harnesses. In any case, I will definitely go for the updated '14 Subaru engine harness when it's time to replace my coil packs. Thanks for the detailed info -- it's great to know that '13 - '14 owners can avail themselves of the updated and more reliable coil pack design. |

A little fun at Sebring in the #19 BRZ, Open Track Day for skilled drivers. Some good laps, close calls and a few mistakes. Track was hot and greasy, and T15 & T16 were covered in oil dry from previous incidents. Enjoy!
