fugly.

Looks cool i guess with turbo and all but actual design is fugly. May as well get the focus with turbo....

If I had the choice i'd buy a V6 Mustang over the type r.

Right now, if I had to choose between ugly and Ford, I'd choose ugly all day, every day. Honda quality may bot be what it used to be, but Ford is in some trouble right now and has horrible reliability and they don't seem to care about its customers. For example they won't redesign that PowerShit DCT transmission even though worldwide it is a terrible unreliable box of shit. There's a class action in the works it's so bad. Even manuals will have all the other issues that Ford is experiencing, it's more than just that auto tranny.

Buying a car is always about risk management. You are plunking down a lot of money for something that will lose half it's value in something like 5 years. 25% is gone as soon as the ink dries on the contract. So to bet that money on a known loser- and the numbers bear out that Ford is in a world of shit- makes no sense. This Civic will have OK (not stellar like in the 90's) reliability and they will recall and fix the problems the car will develop- because they are Honda and not ford.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure this car will be fun and fast. But for the ridiculous (IMHO) money they ask, I think you can find a lot better choices. Yes, I am biased against FWD. But let's face it, that's a lot of money for a civic.

None of you kids were probably alive when the Type R released in the US. This is priced correctly accounting for inflation(Don't hate it just cause you can't afford it.) These will sell in very limited numbers and hold it value compared to all it competitors. It might not appreciate like the previous gens, who knows. Also the FoRS has a ton of problems, and imo the CTR looks miles better.

All those saying they would rather get x over y aren't even comparing to a similar car. I'd rather get a Mclaren P1 than a BRZ

I'm stoked for mines to arrive. Was going to buy the new 86 but have decided to sell my FRS to get this! RWD vs FWD vs AWD who gives. I'm just going to drive the fuck out of this R!

"Damn Civic Type R is in the states now"
The lack of punctuation in this statement confuses me every time I read the title.
Not sure if mad at the civic or impressed it is here.

Anyone think it'd look a lot better with all the trim body colored instead of black?

I don't know.... it looks nice to me in this color, as I'm sure it would look great in black as well.

If I'm able, doubt I will be, I'd like to get into one. The BRZ is fun, but it's become a garage decoration.

This thing is seriously fast on track. Watching a Facebook video of the head chassis engineer, a young guy, drive one of the attendees at the Montreal track day around the track at full blast was very impressive - with all four tires howling, there was virtually no body roll, and no evidence of the dreaded FWD understeer.

So how big a penalty does the CTR suffer for being FWD on track? Not much apparently. Its official 7:44 Nurburgring time edges out the more powerful M2 (7:58, BMW claimed time) and is within a second of the 718 Cayman S, which has a substantially better power to weight ratio. (By comparison, the GT86 record is 8:45.)

Of course all that doesn't necessarily mean that the car is any fun to drive - and good luck getting a test drive in the next six months or so to find out.

And this is Honda here, not that Subaru junk

The front end looks amazing, the rear is starting to grow on me. Its not as bad, and especially when you see it in person.

The people who are hating are the people who always hated on hondas in general it seems.
I hate it, and I've owned Hondas continuously for 19 years. This car looks like a modern Pontiac Aztek with a hood scoop tacked on.

What did you want them to do? Take a base Civic and slap a Type R badge on it? And then you'd have people saying it looks too plain and Honda didn't do anything to differentiate it from the base. Everything on the car is functional.

People either love it or hate it.
Exactly how functional are those fake heat exchanger exit vents on the rear bumper? That garnish exists solely to make the car look smaller by occupying space that would otherwise be blank.

True, but thanks to FWD the CTR is only about half a second faster to 60 than the BRZ

Forget used, I'm fairly confident you can find a new SS for less than a new CTR.
