I get some very interesting sounds when my golf clubs are back there and the seat is folded down. The TRD exhaust seem to excite the graphite shifts of my irons in a very peculiar and vocal manner.

You have never seen me golf. "Shifts" is probably a more accurate term.

I'll take your word for you, I've never golfed in my life other than the times I drove my uncle's VW Golf GTI

Sound insulation should be done for the whole car. The most sound in the cabin comes from the wheelwells and gearbox.

Soundproofing trunk and doors only will give you some results bun not nearly as much as soundproofing the whole car. Roof is not neccessary to soundproof as it has no real effect.

Think of it like a drum room. If you soundproof only doors and windows it will not do much as you need to soundproof the whole room to avoid soundwave spillage. Kick drum (like exhaust drone) will be most difficult to soundproof because vibrations on the floor tranfer to the walls and simple deadening material is not enough and you need lifted floor to eliminate this. In car you culd use a resonator together with soundproofing and for the price of weight you can have a nice quiet cabin.

Sorry to re-up the thread. I noticed that with open rear seats there's no resonance...
