Starting car afte winter / disabling fuel injection - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hey guys,
I'm about to take my car out of storage tomorrow. What I've seen recommended in several guides online is to disable the fuel supply, so the engine gets oil pumped through it, but does not start.
Obviously I don't have the car to see, but could anyone tell where to look for to cut off fuel? I'm guessing fuse box under the hood? (EFI fuse, fuel pump fuse)? My old car had some fuses below the dash/steering wheel too (probably not there).

Sorry, I couldn't find anything relevant, service manual doesn't seem to have a diagram in it and my manual/papers are in the car. A hint would be appreciated. I just don't want to go in unprepared.

Not sure about this engine, but on most fuel injection systems if you hold throttle at 100% on start up it goes into clear flood mode and disables injectors. I could be wrong on this application. But I don't see why it would be different than other fuel injection systems.

I've also been told to pull the plugs so there is no compression in the cylinders, this way there is almost no stress on the engine while you are getting the pump primed back up. I had a '67 Mini and after the engine build that is what we did, no fuel, no plugs, crank till you get pressure on the gauge, put everything back the way it belongs.

Well, with this boxer engine I think pulling the plugs is something not everyone is looking forward to.

Just a suggestion, I've never done plugs on a boxer.

I would think the fuses would be labeled so you can pull the one you need..
IMO .. I believe you are over thinking this.. Storing your car for one season doesn't require any special precautions on startup.. Not with a modern engine in running order..

I'm pretty sure the 100% throttle will disable the injectors.

Where was this stored? My car sat for 6 months in my garage, never got super cold, I trickle charged the battery once, hopped in it last week and it started right up like I had just parked it.

I understand the need to do this for older motors (will probably do something similar when we take our vette out of storage in a couple weeks), but if the car wasn't stored outside, my understanding is that its pretty much the same as leaving the car sitting for a couple days.

It was stored in a heated warehouse since mid November. I know new engines and oils are great, just wanted to take the precautions, its not like I'm going to spend tons of time on doing that.

I will try full throttle method and post back to confirm.

Pull the fuel pump relay. In the box under the hood.

I'm with some of the other guys sentiments. Just start it.

I just took mine out of storage last week and did nothing special. Took the cover off, put the battery in, and started her up. Ran perfect! Driving it again reminded me why I pay so much a month for the thing...

Started the car last week after 5 months in storage. No problem either i just put the start button to the on position and waited like 30 sec to prime it then vroom

without a problem.

During storage the car was on the battery tender and i put sta-bil fuel stabilizer.

Was so hard to wait that long but at least the car never seen a grain of salt !

Start it up and enjoy the season !

Here is my suggestion: Do nothing but start the car normally. It hasn't been setting for long. Just make sure it has fresh fuel in the tank.
