For starters it had to be RWD and come with a manual, practicality didnt matter but this would be my only car so reliability and maintenance costs were a concern (especially having just sold my E46 M3).

New I looked at a 2010 RX8 (still brand new!) and a Genesis coupe 2.0, plus my buddies have mustangs (V6 and V8) which I drove, although they weren't really a serious consideration. For the money the FRS was hard to beat new.

Used I took a good long look at a couple of S2000s but I didn't want a vert and the hard top seemed like a hassle and an added expense. I also looked at an FD RX7 but that scared me a little maintenance wise. Lastly I debated long and hard on a nice E36 M3, but again the maintenance put me off of it.

In the end the combination or price, fun and new vehicle warranty won me over.

So are young people like 18-40 or so really still considering buying American? Not to sound like a d*ck but I didn't even consider a stang or Camaro. I was just raised that American cars don't last. Forgive my ignorance. Can anyone seriously vouch the longevity of a Mustang Camaro gto or firebird? Yea going back a bit lol

I was comparing a BMW 335i, Audi A5 and the BRZ. I've already owned a 335i and I didn't make it in to Audi before I saw and drove a FR-S.

Drove the BRZ the next day and went home with it.

I've owned four Mustangs in the last 25 years. A 1981, 1989, 2001, and my current one, a 2008. All have been V8's, all but the first with manual transmission. My '81 had some longevity issues when it was approaching 100k miles, but it seemed like Ford took care of any issues by the time my '89 5.0 LX was built. I bought it from the original owner with 100k miles on it when it was 4 years old. Put another 50k miles on it over the next three years, sold it to a close friend who drove it to 185k miles, still had the original clutch when he sold it. All I did to it while I had it was mufflers, brakes, tires, valve cover gaskets, EGR valve, and fuel pump. Great car, and my two since have been dead-nuts reliable as well.

Personally if I hadn't bought my BRZ, I would have gotten an NC Miata. Possibly new, but more than likely a 2006 or 2007 in excellent condition.

Sounds my question remains why are you now turning Japanese? "score for double entendre" lol. I know it can be fairly divided like America or Asian or Germany or Italian etc etc. I'm just shocked how many people have posted that they even considered American. Obviously our car is amazing so no regrets but can said American cars hold a candle to the tuner cars these days?

Have been following the car for a while. Was not in the market for a new car. My gf was driving my truck and someone pulled in front of her and totaled my truck. So my insurance check was my down payment. And off I drove. Side note, Funny story, last summer I looked at the new 5.0 mustang, I went to the for dealership and the sales star was very rude. I felt like I was being brushed off as a punk that can't afford a new car. After my experience there I decided I would be better off with a boat. So I purchased a brand new boat. Called up the ford dealership after the first outing in the boat. I let them know how thankful I was that they were very rude and I got the boat instead. They were soo dense that they actually said they were sorry to hear that and if I was still interested in the car I could come down and they would make me a deal. Obviously they didn't listen..... I just bought a boat, cant afford the car now. Lol

I'm a car enthusiast. I like all kinds of cars. My first sports car was a 1978 Datsun 280Z I had a little over 20 years ago. That was replaced by a 1983 VW GTI. The best all-around car I've owned was a 1996 Neon DOHC Sport Coupe. Owned it for 9 1/2 years and 116k miles.

I'm not really brand (or country) loyal when it comes to cars. Currently I own three Japanese cars, two American cars, and one English car (my Mini Cooper). One thing my Mustang has that the BRZ doesn't is torque. Gobs and gobs of gold old American V8 torque.

I had an 83 Camaro that I sold to a friend still running strong at over 700k miles. I had a mustang with 173k miles never had an issue with it and a 08 charger that had a transmission problem at 83k miles but the dealer fixed it in one day with no charge even though the warranty was long gone. It's all in how they are cared for from there beginning always take care of it and it will last a really long time no matter what car it is.

Cayman R or 911 C2S.

A BRZ just kinda fell into my lap so I bought it. I can always by the Porsche later once they get the bugs out of the new ones in a few years.

Before the FR-S was announced, I was sure I'd either end up with a tC or 350Z. Once they unveiled the FR-S, I just waited for it to release and have a few months of time for them to fix initial issues and voila!

Only my opinion, I think that is more urban legend than fact.

My last two daily drivers/family cars were a 1989 and 2000 Chevy Astro. They lasted 256,000 miles and 289,000 miles respectively. The '89 required one major repair (busted water inlet) at 140,000 miles and was still running when I "traded" it in for the 2000. The 2000 required one major repair (water gasket) at 180,000 miles, and died when it ate its motor bearings.

As far as American muscle cars, all you need to do is look on Craigs List or eBay and see the number of 100K+ miles ones that are for sale. I'd say they hold their own, particularly given how much big iron like that is abused.
