If you can afford the extra cost, 2009+ definitely is the answer. I'm thinking I may upgrade mine in a few years, when 2009+ cost has fallen a bit and my 3 year warranty on my 06 has run out (I got it last spring), both for the newer engine (DI, better oiling, no IMS issue), and for the newer interior (it would be nice to have an aux jack, for example). The 2006 is an excellent car though, and I'm certainly happy with mine.

$650 Hard Dog roll bar, no problemo for most tracks and organizations. Way less worry and WAY less $$$ vs. the other cars being considered.

It gives more than the M3 a run for it's money:

R8's, 911's (including an older GT3), Jag F type, GTR, M6, etc.

Edit: lol I posted that link on the first page, oh well, point stands, the Boss 302 is the fastest car in this poll.

I'd choose Boss, I came close to buying one while looking for cars and going with the BRZ. I was a bit late and there were hardly any left, nevermind the 20k markup locally. I was able to drive one at the ks speedway and loved the car.

When I went to buy they stopped production and only had left over 13's before 14 were order able. When I drove a 13 GT Premium I hated it and the 3 places I tried all had **** for salesmen. One didn't even look up from his phone from the min he rode out to me in his golf cart. Anyways with the GT's the fun was gone. I also didn't like the idea of buying one only to find myself down the road creating a Boss 302LS clone.

I don't want an Elise, never like them. I don't think I would ever get a Cayman despite loving the car. Cost being a big factor and on the 1/1,000,000 chance I ever get to afford any car I want a 911 (997) GT2 by Tech Art is #2 on the list. Don't want to spoil it.

I'd still want to be able to use the car on the street without a helmet. From what I understand, that's not possible with the HD roll bar (or any roll bar) due to the risk of hitting your head on the bar in an accident. Even when padded, people have supposedly gotten concussions that way.

How would you compare the handling and feedback on your BRZ vs. the Boss at the track? I was disappointed in how the V6 and GT felt (body roll, brake dive, steering feedback, overall size & weight), but if the Boss is a big improvement, I'd give it a test-drive. Does it feel/handle somewhat comparably to the Twins?

I'm gonna be that guy. None of the above. C6 Z06 or an upcoming C7 Z51.

Or this:

But if I haaaad to pick.. I'd wait and see what we get for a 2015 Mustang. After all, it's a toy so it's not needed right now, and the new one isn't too far away.

Absolutely this. M3s are pure German muscle cars. Ide love to own 1. It would be my DD though, ide definitely not want to seperate myself from it.

I'd take the Boss 302! It is a very well built car overall & they only made it for 2 years.

+1 for the Cayman S. Great poll, I had to really think about the options for a minute (minus the 2014 Mustang GT). I would love to own any of the other cars, though. Elise would probably be my 2nd choice.

Boss 302, Elise or Porsche.

I'd say the M3 but seeing as I see and drive them everyday the excitement is all but gone

Nope, the twins small size, and LOW center of gravity make the car completely different. IMO the only car I've owned even crose were my RX-7's. The BOSS still feels like a big car, with a big motor and a high center of gravity. IT has many tweaks that IMO made it much better than the GT. The steering is more responsive with adjustable settings to increase feedback and feeling. The car has a newer more track worthy lowered/stiffer adjustable suspension, thicker roll bar, Torsen LSD. The bigger brakes (I think on a GT it is an $1k+ add-on) stop it much better and on the settings the one I was in didn't have any nose diving. I know the front is lowered much more than the rear just on the stance for launching purposes.

The 30K difference in price was the major deciding factor for me. Also keep in mind I drove my BRZ months after I drove the BOSS 302.

Great feedback, thanks! It sounds like my gut feeling was correct -- the s197 chassis is just too big/heavy to get a similar driving experience as the Twins, even with the factory track-prep package found in the Boss 302.

I guess it's time to look into Elises/Exiges, or wait until 2009+ Cayman S prices drop a bit.

Porsche's don't seem to hold their value that well IMO, idk call me crazy
