Subaru BRZ 2015 Series Blue rebuild
Hello,
For quite some time i was searching in IAAI/Copart Subaru BRZ that could be restored at the same cost, or lower than i can buy locally. In may, at Copart website Subaru BRZ Series blue car showed-up, and i had to buy it. This corresponded to my birthday, so good present for myself This car suffered from some bad driver (lot of beer cans everywhere) hitting the pole or something, right side is a bit smashed, but engine and electronics works. So the good: Engine works, back side is ok, but bumper needs repainting due to large scratch. Interior is mint, i only have to fix airbag and seat belts, since they are retraced and locked. The bad: For some reason, i can't put inti even gear (2,4,6), i tested 1 3 5 R, all in great working order, it looks like i simply can't push it in, like something is jammed. But no sounds for odd gears. Any idea why ? The Ugly: As i stated before, right side is damaged, and it looks like i have some shift in geometry. i will need bumper, STI Lip, STI rim, lower control arm for right side, ABS sensor, stabilizer, and some metal work at that corner. hood is also mangled, and when i fit new one i have at least 2-3mm misalignment ( hood is overlapping with wing around 2mm As usual, if some one have parts i need, write me a message :-) Here is some photos: Last edited by kilohercas; 07-02-2015 at 12:31 PM. |

today i have some free time so i started to pull gearbox, because even gears was missing. When i started to remove bolts, i noticed that something is wrong with gearbox support. And yes, sure enough it was bend quite badly.
So i have to remove middle exhaust section ( catalytic converter ) , lot of screws, and finally support from gearbox. Here is how it looks, and video of gearbox action after i supported it by hydraulic jack: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noaSAFLDNKY"]Subaru brz gearbox fix - YouTube[/ame] So next, getting this part, and putting it to place, and bolting exhaust system, and some heat shields Last edited by kilohercas; 07-05-2015 at 04:02 AM. |

That's great! Hopefully there isn't any damage to the transmission internals - having the "center support bearing bracket" twist that much is indicative of extremely strong forces acting on the transmission.

Well, yes and no. Since engine and gearbox are suspended on rubber supports, this part was specially designed for gearbox to move under acceleration. Due nature of stooping car by using street lamp, gearbox with engine is huge mass, and it moves with a lot of force. so after rubber support reached safe limit, it will start to bend stuff, so this is what happened here.

Does any one know how i can found metal sheet's codes that was damaged ? somehow i can find it
basically i need right side metal work, it looks like 3 stamped metal panels One that goes from energy absorber, one that raps around suspension mount, and one that surrounds lamp assembly |

Best of luck on the rebuild! I couldn't pass up my Blue BRZ either - got it from IAA.
Was there any other frame damage to go along with that apron damage? I knew my apron was a little messed up (so I thought) and after I got it all back together and brought into the frame shop it had to be adjusted downwards and outwards almost .5" with the firewall. Do you have a tram gauge to measure your frame points with?

It is very hard to say how much i have shift in geometry. If not 3mm step at driver side wing compared to driver-side door, i would say where is no shift, because it is hard to see difference like that, and i don't have idea how to do the measurement Energy absorber was hit near support, so it redirected collision object to front right wheel, and thus mush shifter rails a bit to to left side, that why i have step between doors and wing i think. Here is some photos I am also preparing to paint exhaust system in black heat resistant paint, i don't know will it do much good, but it should give some extra life for exhaust system, to to salt in winter. I will paint muffler part, cat part and some heat shields where is not splash protection panels. Small portion of exhaust near the engine is already covered, so i leave it as it is. |
