What highways are glowing? I have to go to Livonia on Wednesday and it would be handy to know what to avoid.

Guys, it's because XM is running a promo for the next week or two. So you're getting all of the stuff that normally comes with an XM Radio subscription, including the traffic data
EDIT: Ahh, hadn't seen Teacup's reply.

SiriusXM just launched a new app. As part of their desperate plea for people to download it, they're making the service free to stream and on inactive radios through May 29.
What they're hoping is that we'll listen long enough to the shitty reception on our radios to get interested in the content and switch over to the streaming service instead, at least until our cell phone providers flag us as high data users and start throttling our bandwidth so that XM's service is just as shitty streaming as it is from the satellite. To me it's a sign of surrender. They're basically saying, "We can't possibly overcome our technical ineptitude with regard to fixing the interference from T-Mobile towers, so our solution is for you to use the T-Mobile towers to listen to us instead." |

Sounds like you've had a far different experience than I've had. I've had no issues with XM in my car. The only time I have signal issues is in tunnels, or driving in areas where the sky is almost completely blocked (mountain passes, or downtown in major cities.)

Since I moved to Florida, the reception has been complete shit. It's all flat ground or gently rolling low hills here, and my work rarely takes me to an area boxed in by tall buildings. So there's really no excuse for it. Yet the radio is pretty much useless in a straight shot up I-4 from Tampa to Daytona and back. It's particularly bad as I pass Disney. Here's an article where SiriusXM went whining to the FCC to try to make T-Mobile pay to fix the issue: https://www.rcrwireless.com/20151005...rference-tag20 And here's where the FCC slapped SiriusXM down and told them to stop blaming other companies for their own technical incompetence: https://www.rcrwireless.com/20151211...-dispute-tag20 I'm hoping for a future class action lawsuit where I and other SiriusXM victims will each get $4.50 back for our irritation after the legal fees. |

I posted on RT about getting traffic data all of a sudden a few days ago. So it'll go away again in like 10 days?

Yes; once the free trial ends. It's only like $3.99/mo if you want to keep it.

Aww, I never had it work before and all of a sudden it did and it made me happy even though it's not entirely correct so not as accurate as Google Maps. The service is already too expensive for marginal reception in heavily treed areas or when there is a big hill or something to my south or if I have a bike on the roof or in an area with a wide variety of high power cell towers so I could never justify paying more for an extra service that's equally as marginal as the music service. I've actually been thinking of dropping it and not spending the $25/mo but I know I'll miss certain things after having it for about 6 years.

I was about to make a post about this and glad to see other experienced the same thing.
I was driving on a street that was undergoing construction and my GPS showed it in a highlighted color with construction signs. I was so confused because I must’ve drove on that street over 10 times over the course of it being under construction (it was under contraction for over a year). It’s weird that traffic, construction, and other alerts are suddenly showing up 5 years later. It must be a software bug in their end where they reactivated service. Not complaining Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

As I explained in my replies earlier in this thread, it isn't a bug. It's a free trial being given to all XM Sirius radio owners until near the end of the month...

Ya I don't get how there is still confusion in this. Cable networks do the same thing with tv specialty stations all the time. Give it away for free for a bit and hope that it hooks a few people. Probably works pretty well actually.

Traffic data is still working and I haven't paid a cent for it. Not complaining.
