Will a dremal cut thru the hood good enough? I see the instructions have a air powered cut off wheel but don't have one of those

Id recommend picking one up from Napa for $50. It doesn't need to be fancy, just needs to work.

Harbor freight got one for like $25.. You think that'll be good enough? I just know I will probably never use it again.. So idk if I really wanna buy something for $50 that I don't use again.

Would this be safe to run on a daily driver? Like the idea of getting rid of the heat through these vents. Just worried if its too risky on a daily or not...

You can give it a shot. Just have a decent grinding wheel... which are $4 for a single, at worst.

I daily mine. No harm other than dirt and the belt might squeak for a sec when you start the car if it was raining.

Out of curiosity, if one were to move the two smaller vents to the middle, would you be able to install the larger vents on the outside so that they go over the structural member of the bonnet? The screws may become a pita to tighten but you mention hand tightening anyway so should be workable.

I guess I'm asking will the vents clear the structural member if they are cut above it.

I'm thinking a V shape, with smaller vents in middle, larger on outside making up the tips of the V.

Awesome question @lazyluka!

Thankfully the Ft86 hood is rather modular. All the spaces between the supports are about the same size, so, you can easily fit them in any of the front modules ( spaces between the supports) and it looks like they will fit in the rear ones as well. Due yo the nature of the louvers, you would have to cut through the supports to ever fit the vents due to their design.


The bottom of the louvers hang close to an inch at their lowest point.

And to clarify, you're looking to do something like this?

Thankfully, you can cut off those supports and not lose an excessive amount of strength. I don't think its highly recommended though.


So the short answer is;
YES, it can be installed in place of the supports, but you will have to cut off the support to ever fit the louver, and a little extra off the sides to fit the bolts.

Thanks. I did my own budget photoshop attempt, but decided against it as the two smaller vents have a sharper leading edge so it would end up looking funny (pic doesn't really show this). This may even be possible without affecting the hood's structure too much, just the angle of the small vents that's the worry.

The more I think about it, the more I like your design because I feel it still maintains the hood's crumple zones. Unlike another vent design that I have seen, I don't feel like there may be a giant metal rod heading for my face in case of a frontal impact.

To maintain your goals of not touching the hoods structure as mentioned in one of your posts...

How about designing a smaller vent, about half length of the current one, and make it more rectangular.

Yes functionality would be probably be reduced, but I would be interested as it could make the design look a bit cooler.

I like the concepts! I was thinking of getting an extra set of the small vents to install in line and behind the longer ones to help vent out extra air over my supercharger. But I ran into the same problem where the angles just threw it off. It would be cool so see some more modular kits to say, mix and match with.
