Yes. But as is the case with almost every type of OEM tire, they are all "overpriced" or useless for the price you pay.
I got replacement Hankook tires for my ES300h for about 1/2 the price of the factory Michelin tires. It's like 95% of the original except it makes audible noise on certain types of grooves in the concrete pavement on freeways beyond 60MPH. Does it annoy me? Not one bit... but for the average driver, he or she may think it's a defect. OE tires aren't meant for the DIY enthusiast, it's for the average driver who wants to replicate how their car feels from the dealership when new. -alex |

Car is light and often driven more agressively. Yes, grippier tires will provide much more traction. But! - even on stock primacies one can go in curves at faster speeds w/o loosing grip then many "normal" cars. So i wouldn't bash them outright as sucky tires. Nice sidegains for stock primacies are that they wear well, let save fuel due low rolling resistance and provide more hooning fun at lower speeds even with lesser stock NA power. Of course if one seriously uses car on track (but how big share of all the twins owners world-wide DO track, DO care about lap times/grip/etc?), stock primacies show their lesser grip vs other performance tires. They also cost too much. But i wouldn't write them off outright. At very least it's worth to wear down 1st stock tire set & familiarise with car.

I spun out for the first time in my life on these stock tires. During a light sprinkle.

I have spun out many times. Rear wheel drive cars just do that so easily. my first rwd sport style car was in 1993. It just was a part of how you steer. In a rwd car, you can spin out one way and then spin the other way, in other cars you just smash and die. just a matter of not pushing the gas lol. These tires are VERY resistant to spinning out in the rain compared to every car I have driven rwd since 1993. |

What the hell is going on in this thread?
Why is everyone spinning out on the daily? Am I driving wrong?! I live in rural MA, I switch the FXT over from RE71R's to all seasons around Thanksgiving, and the BRZ from S-04's to Arctics, along with stock suspension back in. Early December the Arctics go on the FXT. We ended up with conti DWS all seasons on some 09 Forester 5 spokes after my wife traded her car in, so I use those to bridge the gap between street legal slicks, and 15" rally wheels with ballooney arctics on them.

You know, if any of you are trying to get rid of your crappy stock tires, I'll take them off your hands.

I've driven on them in 20 degree weather (one last cold snap after winter) and they had about as much grip as the hard plastic wheels on a PowerWheels. A super sketchy driftfest.

How you spin out with so little torque confuses me. Must be driving like idiots. Granted I switched to BFG sport 2 comp A/S after 4K miles and they have more grip than the stockers. But I don't remembers any spin outs with the stockers. I must be driving like Grandma!

I drove on them for 2 Maryland winters which hover around or just above freezing during the day. They work as long as it's dry and you are careful. Do not try to drive in snow with those tires.

Yup. That's about the limit. I guess I shouldn't have said "ice." That wasn't quite accurate. Frosty patches?

I'm inclined to agree with this too.
