Glovebox question

When you open your glovebox, does it just drop loosely down to the bottom, or is is damped at all?

The dealer had my glovebox out and now it doesn't feel quite like I remember it -- I sort of remember it being smooth/controlled to open and now it just dumps right to the bottom when I open the latch. Is that how it's supposed to be?

Mine has one of those little dampers on it but it's never been very damped.

mine is damped, but very little. it still dumps open when you release the lever and don't support it. however, you can feel a little resistance but not much.

There is a small damper there. It just snaps in place. The tech may have missed it when he put things back together. I've had mine apart to change the cabin filter a few times now, and almost missed it myself the first time.
Open your glovebox, and look down the right side on the outside of the box, and you'll see a pin with a slot in it sticking out of the side of the box. There is a little "damper" that snaps over that pin. I'd bet that your damper is hanging free from it's upper mounting point. Grab it and snap the hole in the bottom over the pin on the side of the glovebox. Hope that helps.

***update*** Just double checked and pulled out the glovebox and stuffed way up in there was the tiny damper. Hooked it all back up and smooth glovebox action again!
Thanks much!!!

Yep, thanks -- I saw that pin which made me think there was something supposed to snap over it, but I can't find that part. Back to the dealer I guess...

I checked mine out and in the process, unclipped it from the upper mounting. If this happens to anyone (damper drops, hangs loosely, ect), it's easy to put back, just make sure to use the lower hole on the damper (only 1 nub to attach to, one will be unconnected to anything), or your glove box will drop everything out every time you open it.
@Jond63, try squeezing both sides of glove box together to take it out completely, the damper may have fallen behind the glovebox.
