Mine seems to be coming from the rear deck moving around. Dealer adjusted it but it came back....smh...Might just end up removing the damn thing.

I am 1 month click free since i did my little airbag trick as noted above. Please give it a shot if you are sick of the noise.

Mine is a noise caused my the rear deck moving around. The sound isn't there when the rear seats are folded down.

The dealer attempted to "adjust" the rear deck. It worked for a day then the sound is back.

I think I (finally) figured out my issue tonight. I could tell the noise was metal on metal, but I always assumed it was coming from the parcel shelf itself. Turns out, it was coming from one of the points where the parcel shelf attaches to the frame of the car. The below photo was taken from the passenger side, just behind the back seat. You have to pull the carpet back a bit to get to it.

When pulling the parcel shelf side to side, I was able to reproduce the noise. After trying several spots, I pried apart the metal in the spot circled below. Success! I also sprayed some white lithium grease for good measure.

My issue could very well be isolated to my BRZ, but I figured I would post it just in case anyone else had a mysterious noise coming from the trunk area they were unable to isolate.

So your pic was taken from the passenger side looking towards the drivers side?

Looking toward the outside of the car from the passenger side.

Here, hopefully this picture gives a better perspective. This was taken with my camera pointing in from the trunk opening, with the seat folded down. I've already got everything put back together, but it's right behind the carpeting where I'm pointing.

This picture also shows me I have some white lithium overspray I need to clean up. Oops.

Thanks for sharing. I added your finding to the first post of this thread.

How were you able to reproduce the noise? By pressing the spot with your thumb? Or grabbing something and push/pull around?

Laying down in the trunk (with the seats folded down) and looking up, there's only a few spots on the parcel shelf you can get enough of your hand into to pull/push it. When doing so, I was able to reproduce the sound and eventually pinpoint it to this area.

I probably could have figured this out faster if I laid back there while someone drove my car, but then I would have had to let someone else drive my car .

Could you explain the fix one more time? Did you pry something or just lube something?

Thanks.

Sure. Take a look at the area I circled in the photo in Post # 355. With a thin flat head screwdriver, I pried the overlapping metal apart just a bit. I added some lube as well, but separating the metal is what resolved the issue.

Maybe this was already addressed but I went in 2 weeks ago to have this fixed. Dealer claimed it was fixed. They performed both tsb's for the issue. Got the car back and the noise was still there. Went back in today. They called and said they had identified exactly where the issue was coming from and had fixed the problem. According to the dealer the tsb out from Subaru stated to put the gel/whatever on the left side of the deck. The noise was actually coming from the right side. They performed the tsb on the right side and so far the noise is gone.

Where is this? I can't figure out where this is, can you take a picture of a wide view from the trunk... thanks!
