(@Tcoat, have I told this one before?)

It was a hot day (120 degrees plus) down at Fort Erwin, CA (about 25 miles south of Death Valley) in August. We were on our last day of 4 day maneuver. It was about 0300 hrs and the action had slowed down, so I jumped up on the canvass top of my jeep and took my boots off and taking advantage of the cool of the early desert morning decided to take a snooze.

I had just dozed off when some jackass set off an artillery simulator about 50' from my jeep. I bolted off the top of the jeep, forgetting where I was and that I had taken my boots off and landed on a pile of rocks. Knowing that I had screwed up my ankle real bad, I put my boot back on to act as a splint.

Fortunately, the maneuver ended that morning and we returned to the post. My driver helped me limp up to the aid station (a tent) where this doctor told me it wasn't broken, just sprained and just stay off it for a few days and gave me a handful of codeine pills.

My driver took me over to my quarters (no AC, no fans, tin roof) with the outside temps in the 120s. I instructed him to go over to the class 6 store and get me a quart of gin, then stop at the mess tent and get a mermite can full of ice.

I filled my mess kit cup full of ice and gin and stuck my foot in the mermite can of ice. After the codeine kicked in I took a looong nap.

The next morning one of my Lieutenants stopped in to check on me, brought me some C rations and another quart of gin.

Yes, I recovered.

THE END
So THAT'S where the naps began. It all makes sense now.

Didn't George Carlin have some utopia/distopia idea where ever they put certain types of people in different states or something... oh wait I found it.

Risked my life going to the local hipster grocery stores to see if they were discounting meat yet...

21/lb for Choice tenderloin
16/lb for Choice ribeye

NOPE.

Pick up my new car in two more days. Probably one of the very few sales made in March 2020!

Yeah got it 48 hours later. They only swab one person per household so I didn’t get swabbed. She was negative so we were both cleared to come back to work

We had 1lb ribeyes from Sam's Club on Saturday night, along with air fryer wedge fries and some veggies. Very tasty.

They had no TP though...

What did you think of the process? It has been something my painter buddy and I have been discussing for a while.
