Should I consider battery corrosion protection on the brand new car? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hi guys,

Is it a good idea to use battery terminal protectors (ie NOCO https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER) and corrosion spray (ie NOCO https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER for a brand new car and battery?

Those felt rings are more than enough in all honesty.
Even if you do get a bit of corrosion on the terminals a little bit of water, baking soda, and a brush can clean that up in no time.

Then again.... a bit of battery corrosion is the lest of your problems.

Also FYI $9 for those rings? Lol don't be a chump. Those are $3 max at any auto parts store.

I worked for AAA and got tingly when I saw the signature red spray on terminals. It meant I wasn't about to replace their hardware and could do my job effectively.

Please just spray them if you will never check your battery. I'm in Vermont and had plenty of MA cars that were corroded with the connection hardware itself rusting apart.

why would you spend 30$ on stuff when 30 seconds with a wire brush fixes it? Plus the oem batter will shit the bed before that 30$ is worth it

The real issue is the connection hardware rusting. When it does, you can't just unbolt the connectors and put them back on. You have to cut the connection ends off and add new hardware, since you can't re-tighten the bolts to get a snug fit onto the terminal

this is what i install on all my cars. it's an all-in-one kit that includes the felt rings, and then a small squeeze thing of dielectric grease that i coat the terminals with. it's worked well so far

I know this will be a very basic question. Is there anything that I have to be careful about taking out the battery wire when I put the protective pads? I mean Is there a possibility that It can I can get an alert on my screen ? Is it just fine to release the cables put the pads, spray the the protectant and assemble back.

Yeah. Don't let the positive terminal touch metal.

Also do not attempt to do this with your bear hand. Use protective gloves (oven mitts ok) head gear with full face guards, thick rubber apron, a grounding wire and protective foot wear.
Also let your neighbors know your attempting to battery work. And for shits and giggles call the fire department just so they can be on stand by. I'm sure @humfrz would agree
