Exclamation Is this noise normal? (Possible Clutch/Flywheel Rattle)

This has been an ongoing issue for years and finally decided to take a video of it. I took it into my local dealer a while back but due to my "loud exhaust" they couldn't hear any issues with the car.

The "chatter-like" sound can be heard almost throughout the whole clip but can be heard more when the fan (i believe) kicks in. FYI car is in NEUTRAL.

Maybe i'm just crazy and theres nothing to worry about! Looking for some guidance as im approaching the end of my warranty soon and im deciding on whether to finance the car after lease.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

My guess sounds like it's the exhaust, or one of the exhaust components is lose. My guess the exhaust hanger.

Other than that, some thing is loose.

I have the same chatter after cold start. Goes away when clutch is pressed and comes back right away when it's released. The noise disappears as the vehicle warms up.

had this on my old car at around 30k. I have a feeling it was the throw out bearing at it would only happen when the clutch was disengaged.

I have been noticing the same sound. It goes away either by clutching in or turning off the A/C (completely shutting it off/toggling the A/C button). I reckon it has something to do with the climate control system.

I thought it was the flywheel making the noise, but after changing the flywheel it got even louder.

Anyway, I have gotten used to it, hopefully, one day I'll learn where is it actually coming from.

Ah! Well that's a game changer.
If that's the case, worse case it's your throw out bearing. It might be on its way out.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the throw out bearing imo (it is a possibility, though).. I'd say it's either the transmission or the clutch components warming up. I started hearing this when I hit 10K on the odometer in August. Once the car is completely warmed up it isn't there. Maybe take it to the dealership and see what they think? I've read on here that some individuals were able to reduce the noise by swapping out the fluid in the trans. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet. Car still runs great regardless.

Well oddly enough that's how my throw out bearing started out. Some what same noise when i engage the clutch. It wasn't anything I was worried about, I though it was just odd it did that every time i pushed in the clutch.

As mentioned, once it warmed up the noise was gone. Eventually it got worse till it sounded like grinding metal.

It made this noise when you would push in the clutch pedal, or it would happen once you let the pedal out during a cold start?

I'm not calling you a liar I'm just curious, because I've heard different scenarios with this sound. I know when I hear it during cold start, the sound goes away when you disengage the clutch, and returns once you let the pedal out. Like I stated above, I've been told by some individuals that changed their trans fluid the sound wasn't as prevalent afterwards. Which made me think it was the input shaft bearing or something else warming up.

If it helps my TOB recently went and I got it replaced. For me it was a very different sound. Not saying it for sure couldnt be the TOB. To me sounds like something is loose. For my sound it occurred more loud when I pressed in the clutch which is more typical of the TOB going. I took videos of my sound which was a TOB issue and it sounds quite different than yours.

Mine has been making the same noise since new, and I am at 47K miles. I noticed that mine makes the sound when the A/C compressor kicks on, or when there is a load on the engine.

The noise does go away when the clutch is engaged.

Yeah when pushed the pedal in it would make that noise. It started when I had 60k on it. When it finally gave out I was at 88k. So it did last a while.

And yeah I also changed out the tranny fluid with Redline at that 60k service and the noise was still there.

Then again not all cars are the same. But from the sounds of it, it was almost the same as mine.
