Not questioning your knowledge but where did you get this info from? I do not see it mentioned at all on the v4.0 release notes or on the open flash website...

So the stage 2+ tunes are not for the cars with catless headers?

just flashed to v4 and damn feels good. off a dead start it feels a lot more healthy, at low rpms in traffic it feels better, the cold start remove is a great QoL enhancement too. Also tried out launch control, ive never had a car with it and holy shit it was fun. 2 questions tho, 1) how does flat foot shifting work? it seems like it just stays at the rev limiter and never drops. 2) is it me or is the pedal deader than the v3 and you have to press it down a lot more to blip and match a downshift?

No worries, I know you're just trying to be sure

When you download the V4 files there are ROMS for each CalID including the 2012-2016 ones. I have flashed the correct one (A01C) for my car and have been running it for 2 days with zero issues.

Also, from Steves first post: "New v4.01 Beta tunes now available for all USDM GT86s (including 2017+ which now have Launch Control/Flat-Foot-Shift)"

Just be sure if you are going to be modifying the ROM you need to use the updated definitions, if you are just flashing then just make sure you use the one for your CalID

I've had the same experience with the deader pedal feel. It doesn't seem to be getting any better which is a bummer. I prefer a very sensitive throttle.

Mine seemed to get better at least to the point where I don't notice it anymore. The car seems smoother when I'm on partial throttle in low gears now so maybe it is just a tad less sensitive

i kind of like it off a stop but shifting 2->1 on a steep hill or going like 4-3-2 on an off ramp its definitely harder to match. probably because i need to get good but thats a totally separate issue

What effect would a stage 1 flash have on a stock MT 2017 BRZ?

It can only make it better. Stock tunes are pretty garbage. At least on the 2013 - 2016 models.

Just so the info is here as well.

The Stage 1 MT has 10 changed tables:
2x MAF Correction After Start (Cold Start Adjust)
5x Idle Speed Changes (Cold Start Adjust)
Target Throttle Plate Angle (Only changed above 6400)
Ignition Timing Post Start (Cold Start Adjust)
P0420 Code is disabled

The Stage 2 has, in addition:
Open Loop Fueling (Richer at high load low RPM, Leaner at high load high RPM)
LTFT Limits (Reduced to +/-2%)
Base Timing B (Less Timing at high load high RPM)
Knock Correction Advance (More Timing at high load high RPM)
Timing Comps Per Cylinder A & B (Now all 0)
FBKC Range (Enabled now set above 3k RPM)
Intake and Exhaust AVCS Changes

The AT is pretty much the same as the above, just no P420 defined and P0700 code is disabled.

You have to set up flatshifting in romraider

So there is no way to fix P0420 on my AT? I didn't see the option to turn off in romraider I had to flash back to my old V3 this morning because the cel was making downshifting ugly.
