My area wasn't that bad, they just decided not to plow or touch the roads. Driving home from work I was literally going sideways down the road at about 15 mph. Scared the crap out of me until I got the hang of it. Should have put the winter tires on, but I've been working far too much and didn't even think about it until I was in it.

LOLLOLOLOLOL That is the worst map I have seen but it, and the blanked out maps shown in the US, really explains why people think Canada is all up north. The most populated part of Canada is in the section that sticks way down in-between the Great Lakes but it is always just blank so people think it is all water there. According to that map I actually live someplace around Kentucky. There are actually 20 States (11 full and 9 partial) north of where I live. There are 27 States north of the most southern part of Canada. If I could drive in a straight line it would be shorter trip to North Carolina than the 49th parallel that people think of as the border to Canada. The reason we get so much snow is that we are not on a coast with oceans to keep temperatures up so we get cold air from the north and nice moist air from the south and when they meet over the lakes they create snow. Lots and lots of snow. Most of our weather comes from Texas not Alaska.

And that is the secret! We have massive fleets of plows on standby 24/7, use a beet juice and brine mix to pretreat the roads if snow is forecast, pour tons and tons of salt on the road when it does snow and people are generally just more prepared for it. But still we get taken by surprise at least a couple of times a year and the roads can be almost impassible until they get caught up. It must be hellish where all those preparations just don't exist!

And then add that most people down here cannot drive in the dry or rain, and in the snow they should all just stay home, yet they go out and act like it is dry and wonder how they ended up in the median backwards and their car is totally stuck. And they act like 4 wheel drive is the be all end all and forget that it does not help you stop.

That all happens here as well. It shouldn't but it does.

And unfortunately the trend to drive like a jerks in snow has been growing since the SUV/CUV fashion started... People think that because have a "whale " (CUV/SUV) and is 4WD or AWD have a permit to drive like if it was a dry /summer day...I think they watch too much TV where shows that this whales are great in snow and can defeat the physical laws...

I lived in Rochester New York six years, still visit relatives-friends there...every winter the first couple of snow storms created havoc with those seasoned northern drivers until they realized it was time to slow the heck down
