Yeah, I kept it nice and low RPM getting going. It really only begs for attention if I get on it and hit 4k+ before shifting out of first, which might not be a great idea starting into a right turn on most streets anyway.

Going to add this here for information: http://www.courts.ca.gov/documents/2...?1546290674434

Page #41 shows that cvc 27150/27151 are still ~$200 each fine unless you were classified with an exhaust that has a whistle tip which then is $1000 fine (27150.3 a/b).

That doesn't help the narrative that the sky is falling! My 100dB fart cannon sounds really good so I should be allowed to annoy everyone else with it, and have no repercussions.

I believe the dealer option TRD exhaust is CARB legal but on the Scion forums (outdated), some owners mention that cops still mess with them sending them to the state ref. This was an old Canadian story, but could also be applied to California with quota happy law enforcement (see 2nd link).

Unfortunately, I think they updated this part and it doesn't follow what the CHP bulletin says.

https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/f...ctionNum=27151

ARTICLE 2. Exhaust Systems [27150 - 27159] ( Article 2 enacted by Stats. 1959, Ch. 3. )

27151.
(a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.

(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles with a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998, complies with this section. Motor vehicle exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to, nonoriginal exhaust equipment.

(Amended by Stats. 2001, Ch. 92, Sec. 10. Effective January 1, 2002.)

This whole thing is BS

SO basically as long as our exhaust system has the cats, muffler, and under 95 db, then it should be legal!

If you wanted to be extra you could probably go to https://asktheref.org/ schedule an appointment and have them check out your exhaust/sound test it and get the compliance notice. That way, if a cop pulls you over you can throw that at em!

For part A, if you actually refer back to 27150, it's regarding mufflers and cats and resonators. Doesn't restrict us from using aftermarket parts for replacements. Only making sure that the muffler is working and there isn't any cutouts, bypasses, or whistle tips (I.E. Removing the muffler or resonator, adding an electronic cutout, etc)

Part B has been like that for a long time. As long as it doesn't exceed 95db and is in compliance (having the original muffler/resonators on that aftermarket piece that isn't modified to make louder).
