Laguna Seca dB inquiry - resonated ft86sf v1 catback
I've tried searching and as well as testing using some various phone apps to try and determine the dB sound level for my car prior to running at Laguna Seca. I'm having trouble confirming if an otherwise all stock setup with just a resonated v1 ft86speedfactory cat-back exhaust will pass their test...
Anyone with experience using various cat-back setups on their 86 over there? Mine's on the quiet side, but is it quiet enough? Thanks! |

Most, if not all, catbacks have been flagged for 92dB days...pretty sure it will be flagged for 90dB days. Cloud cover doesn't help (it's always cloudy/foggy in the morning) as that essentially adds another 5dB to your setup already. TRD RS1.0 got flagged for a header. We have two solutions coming out that should keep the dB down to MRLS levels. Thank you!

Also want to note that the header used on that RS1.0 is generally "quieter" than the other headers available on the market. Even then, it flagged the sound tower hardcore. This client was not particularly on throttle very hard either. With that said (and some shameless plug), we hope to have that solution available for purchase to the sound nazi people in the next few months.

What the lucky. Last year, every single person with a catback exhaust in 86CUP at Laguna got flagged. All the OEM catback guys got off lucky. Even Elite Performance's beast mode FR-S was on OEM catback.

Here I was thinking the resonated piping and heavy 2-outlet muffler with all stock header, OP, and MP was going to keep me in the green. None of the other 86 guys with track pipes, etc. that are attending have mentioned much concern up until now, perhaps they just sneak their oem piping back on and move on, or hope for the best?
I for one have no intention of spending time and money on prep and registration, then driving up there and getting a hotel just to be flagged in the first heat and drive back home. Fingers crossed for ya buddy, report back if you can with how it went! |

A bit off-topic but wanted to say it none the less. All of those sound regulations are bullshit. You want a racetrack where people go to race cars to be more silent than most sport cars that normally are out there on the street (do a 90db test on most sport cars, few of them actually pass). Oh but the ALMS and other series can race there no problem...
Bullshit, I cant understand how you guys simply lean back, drop down your pants for that. You know the only reason they can ask for such shitty regulations is because people still go anyways. Stop going, and they'll get moving to change the rules or "interpret them" differently to allow people to race. Just for the record, most tracks I go to also have sound checks, but most of the time its a quick inspection just to make sure you arent diong something ridiculous like 120db (cars with only headers dumping straight to the side/up) |

What's the deal with the noise level rules? It's a racetrack after all, right? Can someone explain this to me?

Nearby homeowners who bought houses built after Laguna Seca was filed complaints and I believe they got an injunction for sound limit. However they are allowed 30 days (I think) where there is no sound limit, but these are mostly saved for professional races.
