Highway complaints

I have a huge issue with the Tappan Zee Bridge. It is one of the most used commuter bridges in the state that crosses the Hudson River. It is constantly backed up by traffic way more than it should and the structure is falling apart. Ever since I could remember they had plans to replace the bridge but never go through. One of the many complains I have of our highways. If you have any complaints about our highways please tell.

lol I live near the tappan zee, weren't they supposed to replace it for like 30 years now?

I hate how when it rains the bronx river and hutch flood and I have to take 87 to go to the city and sit in an hour of traffic because of the GW exit.

The tappan zee is an awful bridge. 287 always floods in north NJ and the road's pavement is almost beyond repair. A new bridge is badly needed!

In my area Westchester they been working on 287 for years and won't be done in a year or so. Once the snow storms come in highways and freeways are going to be a mess.

Finally my prayers have been answered. They are actually going to fix the Tappan Zee bridge.

Fix? No, it gets fixed all the time. They are in talks with a few contractors to see who will build the replacement.

The bridge itself isn't bad, but you have to consider that it was built more than 50 years ago, so as 87/287 expanded and the amount of traffic increased, the bridge experienced growing pains. It's just outdated now. I'm pretty sure that if the original contractors/engineers/architects could predict the future the span would be way wider (or would have included another level).

@blur: I agree, the Cross Bronx is total shit. I avoid it if at all possible.

I agree that it gets "fixed" all the time but it's like putting a band-aid on stitches. The bridge was on "Crumbling of America" on the History Channel which was about the infrastructure crisis in the U.S. That just shows how terrible that bridge is and should of been dealt with over time.
