Just found this, and I wanted to share. I need to go through it some more, but it looks like oil catch cans are exempt from CARB. Surprise to see that, but it makes sense...still surprised.

it seems to have gotten pulled off...

archive/wayback:
https://web.archive.org/web/20190323...%2012-2009.pdf

differently-formatted, but content looks similar:
https://www.saddleback.edu/uploads/a...nal12-2009.pdf

also:
https://www.bar.ca.gov/pdf/Smog_Chec...ence_Guide.pdf
title page dated "5/17/2019".
page E-2 (64 of 69), section 8 "Aftermarket Parts":
Quote:
All non-OEM configurations or aftermarket components installed on the recipient vehicle or donor engine must adhere to BAR’s Aftermarket Parts Verification Guidelines located in the Smog Check Manual, Appendix G [...]
it sounds like the "Appendix G exemptions" (in some form) still apply, even though the file seems to no longer be available on their website. but i'm just guessing...

As many of you probably know already, Edelbrock Supercharger is CARB approved:
https://www.edelbrock.com/e-force-su...2-0l-1556.html

Would be curious to learn about more new CARB-approved products, especially for MY17+.

Pretty much. There are smog exempt parts like closed circuit catch cans or catback exhausts, which often get confused for being illegal or needing a CARB sticker. CAI might be the only other example of a CARB EO product, and its benefits without a tune is suspect.

Well if you want to get technical it is everywhere. But the only way to get an EO is if someone where to do a locked carb tune, do the testing, and get it approved. Bet then it would still only apply to a certain engine family, model year, ect.

I figured, but let me ask what is your setup, and what are your concerns?

Most CARB renewals of new cars consist of a visual inspection and an OBD2 readiness check. If you are just running a dual tune (pump or E85) then you will pass with E85 in the tank. If you are running a Flex Fuel setup then you will fail the visual inspection, unless the technician is nice or an idiot.

If you are concerned about some type of emissions roller or sniffer test then E85 has shown to have less or negligibly different emissions, so you would pass there.

I am hoping Harrop will release a CARB tune/EO sticker, so I can remove my Flex Fuel kit and use a base tune from DT (something that works with my 770cc injectors and pump gas), so I can pass the visual.

Ah i see, yeah I'm thinking about running a flexfuel kit but keep it hidden somewhere in the engine bay
