I finally gave up the idea of installing the scion radio to the Civic. Instead I placed a Kenwood DDIN in the Civic. I would say the front panel of the Scion radio is too wide. You can't put it in the Civic without cutting off a large chunk of Civic's radio bazel.

that would make sense as it seems Toyota makes their radios extra wide even though they are 2DIN height.

I just installed a Kenwood DDX719 and I will say the dash kit is butt a55 ugly. Gonna have to do something to make it blend better. Bondo may be the answer.

a simple 12v relay will work as well.

Would be nice, because it would look more complete, and OEM, IMO
working on it.

Nitro, i just took the factory unit out and am about to put in a z140. it looks like theres one extra wire in the 6 pin connector. Did you find this? Is that for the amp?

Looking at your 6 pin connector, what is the orange wire for?

See this post (#20 there) about the power antenna and amp turn-on leads.

The extra orange wire on the aftermarket 6-pin Toyota harness is the illumination(-) lead in Subarus. This wire is not needed by aftermarket head units. If your aftermarket harness (Metra, Scosche, etc.) has that, either insulate the end, or extract the whole pin/wire.

You usually do want to use the illumination(+) lead, on the 10-pin harness.

Sometime soon I'll post a real pin-out table, customized for the BRZ and FR-S.

Thanks! I figured it out after i found a wiring legend. I even found the speed sensor wire.

Do you know if theres a reverse sensor wire? That wasnt on the wiring list i found.

If you're going to use the AppRadio mode, I wouldn't suggest running the cable to the glove box. When you switch to AppRadio you have to tap "Allow" on the iphone's screen.

great write up!!

The only thing i'm not too happy about is how far our the 2 din stereo sits with the factory brackets.

There doesnt seem to be any others on the market which solve this problem....unless ive overlooked it somehow
